Reporting to the Senior Geologist Supervisor (Drilling Leadership and Execution), the Senior Geologist (Drilling Coordination) is accountable for providing direct supervision to geologists executing geological and geotechnical drilling programs across the Coal BU including its operations, development projects and exploration programs. This includes the supporting the successful recruiting, planning, budgeting, execution, safety management and reporting of all field operating activities. This role will also support the execution of Geoscience related initiatives and collaborate closely with subject matter experts in the Exploration and Geoscience group and Technical Services.
Responsibilities
-Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
-Support the Senior Geology Supervisor in coordinating drilling service providers including the creation of scopes of work and RFPs, the development of master service agreements, facilitating regular KPI meetings and reviewing end of program performance
-Ensure the safe operations of all field programs and site operations and always hold the safety of employees, contracts, and consultants as our highest priority
-Provide direct supervision of field teams carrying out exploration and geotechnical drilling programs
-Create and maintain direct supervision plans, where required, to meet EGBC guidelines and standards
-Training of geoscientists and field personnel in drill program management, geological and geotechnical chip and core logging
-Training of geoscientists in data management processes and performing regular quality control checks
-Compilation of drill program metrics and reporting to stakeholders in the Coal BU and Exploration and Geoscience groups
-Implement initiatives and workflow improvements related to exploration and drilling activities to contribute to continuous improvement in the areas of productivity, data collection and operational safety and efficiency
-Update and develop documentation with respect to procedures and process for program execution and data collection
-Collaborate with the wider community of Geoscience practitioners across Teck to ensure professional best practices and standards are applied and shared
Qualifications
-Minimum of 7 years experience in exploration and mining geoscience with exposure to project management, technical analysis, and advanced stage drill programs in brownfield environments
-B.Sc. in Geology or a related discipline and hold or qualify for Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) status with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC). Eligibility to work in Canada is required
-Results-driven, adept at finding effective solutions, capable of articulating business drivers to impact and influence decision-making, establish alignment, and achieve desired outcomes
-Ability to lead, develop and manage a team
-Solutions focused with a commitment to respectful, inclusive, and sustainable community development
-Understands the needs of the business, focuses on priorities by setting goals, determining timelines, delegating resources, and measuring results
-Familiarity with data management (acQuire™) and 3D modelling and software packages is preferable
-Project management skills to ensure that project deliverables are achieved in a timely manner
-Can identify learning and performance gaps in others and is effective in coaching and developing others
-Successful candidates must be motivated self-starters, able to work under minimal supervision and be able to manage several priorities simultaneously
-Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential including the ability to explain complex geoscientific concepts to technical and business audiences
-Strong critical thinker with an aptitude for problem solving
-Effective collaborator, able to establish positive rapport with others and is effective in managing relationship through openness, honesty, and cooperation
-Valid driver’s license

Salary Range: $115,000 - $142,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
