What is the Opportunity?
The Senior Global Mobility Advisor (GMA) reports to the Senior Manager, Global Mobility Advisory and is a contributing member of the Global Mobility Centre of Expertise whose mandate is to support business objectives and talent partners with expertise, programs and operational excellence that enables and simplifies global talent deployment while also balancing needs of employees and enterprise requirements. The Advisory team manages RBC's global talent deployment through a variety of mobility programs for moves within or across North America, the Caribbean, Europe, UK and Asia.

As a Senior Global Mobility Advisor you play an integral role in the GMA's advisory support and operational effectiveness. You are the lead contact for RBC's day-to-day operational activities related to Relocation Programs.

What will you do?

  • Work as a high performer, contributing member of the Global Mobility Centre of Excellence
  • Provide advisory support to business, HR partners or employees on solutions, considerations, implications and risks of proposed talent moves/new hires at initial planning stages and throughout the employee's lifecycle
  • Is primary point of contact for transferring employee including some high touch advisory toVIPs by providing sound advice, guidance and management of inquiries, issues, escalations and non-Relocation Management Services supplier-related queries
  • Act as the liaison between the transferring employee and all stakeholders including, but not limited to, suppliers, COEs (e. g. Pension, Benefits) and HRBPs
  • Act as Advisor and subject-matter-expert with respect to RBC's Relocation Programs, as well as an expert in Canadian and US Immigration matters and relocation requirements, legislation and policy, and can be the first point of contact for the business or HRBP regarding questions/concerns related to movement of employees on temporary/permanent basis
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance service effectiveness
  • Balancing appropriate controls with employee experience as a priority;
  • Ensure adherence to Internal Control Requirements (i.e., Privacy, Security, etc.)
  • Manage exceptions and assignment extensions within Delegated Authority
  • Action reports as required
  • Liaises with suppliers ensuring issues are dealt with and/or escalated appropriately
  • Collaborates with the business/function to build awareness and understanding of business' priorities, short/long term talent goals, etc.
  • Balances the mitigation of risks and policy application while supporting business objectives and the employee's specific needs

Advice & Service Delivery Support

Oversees end to end life cycle transfer administration ensuring all files are within immigration and tax regulation and RBC policy throughout the transfer period and proactively tracking status and following up with employees and appropriate stakeholders to keep them informed

  • Provides advice and counsel and planning support to all stakeholders including businesses, HRBPs, Recruiting, and employees on application of and/or compliance with Global Mobility program/policy provisions and immigration legislative requirements/regulations
  • Ensures the terms and conditions of the offer letter of employment satisfies policy requirements and immigration legislation prior to providing clearance
  • Provides business with preliminary immigration/relocation assessment to inform/enable early talent decisions, engaging external advisors as appropriate
  • Liaises between HRBP, business and Relocation Management Services supplier for the preparation and customization of the transfer letter ensuring it is in accordance with immigration law requirements and RBC policy
  • Initiates and manages relocation authorization form and tax/immigration processing; ensures employee and RBC remains compliant with immigration requirements throughout their employment in foreign country
  • Effective records retention and tracking of all information for employee relocation/immigration files for both internal/external audit including, but not limited to, work permit status, SIN expiration, etc.
  • Keeps abreast of changing legislation and practices to proactively understand impact to operations/processes

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Undergraduate degree or experience in a related field is required
  • Experience managing employer-sponsored US immigration case files
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail
  • 5+years of experience within a Global Mobility group/function/role
  • Passion and interest in providing high quality advisory support in a corporate Global Mobility function
  • Strong listening and organization skills with the ability to prioritize work effectively
  • Strong technical capability (MS Excel, vendor web-based admin tools, SAP, Workday); financial tools (RBC Express, Service Platform, IRIS, TSYS) an asset
  • Ability to work under pressure both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Works collaboratively with other team members and internal/external contacts
  • Undertakes activities to support continuous learning and self- development to enable awareness of industry trends and changes
  • Provides back-up coverage/surplus assistance during periods of vacation/absence/high work, supports team whenever required.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

Nice-to-haves:

  • CERP (Canadian Employee Relocation Professional) or CGMP (Canadian Global Mobility Professional) certification similar equivalent
  • Human Resources or Paralegal Designation
