Job description

As a Senior Legal Advisor in the Legal Affairs teams in the Privacy Office at National Bank, you’ll be involved in various initiatives and have the opportunity to learn and excel in files requiring knowledge of several legal fields, including the protection of personal information, artificial intelligence, technology, commercial agreements, acquisitions and financing, litigation, employment rights, governance, intellectual property and marketing. This job will allow you to have a positive impact on our organization through your legal reasoning, business reflexes, curiosity, capacity to adapt, relationship skills, as well as your analytical skills and ability to synthesize information.
Your role
  • As a lawyer in the Privacy office, you’ll provide legal counsel on a number of varied topics and as part of the rollout of initiatives
  • Provide legal advice and intervene in strategic cases that have a significant impact on the activities, operations and results of National Bank of Canada and its subsidiaries
  • Carry out research and analyses, issue legal opinions, and make recommendations to ensure the development and protection of National Bank of Canada and its subsidiaries
  • Understand the impact of regulatory requirements on the activities of National Bank of Canada and its subsidiaries
  • Improve internal processes and increase institutional knowledge
  • Analyze, interpret, and review various legal reports and documents in order to safeguard the Bank's rights
  • Participate in committees or special projects and represent the Bank in dealings with various outside organizations and agencies
Your team
In the Privacy Office, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team and you’ll report to the Senior Manager of the Privacy Office. Prerequisites
  • Bachelor’s degree in law and 2 to 5 years of relevant experience
  • Member of the Barreau du Québec or the Chambre des notaires du Québec, with extensive experience
  • Experience in one of these fields: protection of personal information, artificial intelligence, commercial agreements, acquisitions and financing, litigation and employment rights, governance and treasury, intellectual property and marketing
  • Desire and ability to learn different areas of law and contribute in this regard
  • Good judgement and business acumen
  • Ability to offer efficient and quality service to business partners
  • Proactive attitude, leadership, and initiative
  • Ability to manage priorities and a large volume of files
