Job Summary

The Senior Officer, Corporate Finance supports money market activities, including short term financing, FX hedging and investing excess cash, in addition to following market trends and developments. The incumbent acts as the main source of support for all treasury activities and provides back up to Senior Managers Corporate Finance. The role is part of the front office activities of the Treasury department.

Main Responsibilities

Money Market Activities

Short-term Financing

·Prepare and analyze daily funding needs

·Carry out the issuance of commercial paper and ensure optimum rates and terms for CN

·Manage a series of dealers from banks across the US and Canada

·Track market conditions, receive daily quotes and market updates from dealers

·Keep abreast of developments in money markets

·Provide weekly updates and presentations to Investment Committee headed by the VP Treasurer, regarding money market activities

FX Hedging

·Execute daily FX trades (swap and spot) to hedge FX exposure in line with Company's policies

·Support the decision process on trades, identify outflows and inflows to hedge, amounts to be hedged and terms, using cash flows forecast

·Maintain a solid understanding of derivative products

·Build solid relationships and maintain ongoing communication with various dealers and banks

Investing Excess Cash

·Invest the company's cash in line with its investment policy

·Make investment decisions on a daily basis in order to maintain liquidity

·Keep abreast of money market investments and risks

·Keep track of products to maximize return on investment without compromising capital preservation

·Maintain a deep understanding of the Board approved investment policies and limits

·Monitor credit ratings and exposure to counterparties

·Build and maintain relationships and credibility with banks

Letters of Credit

·Understand the limits and specifics of bi-lateral letters of credit agreements negotiated between CN and various banks to respect agreements with counterparties

·Manage letters of credit portfolio, ensuring timely issuance, renewal, amendment and cancellation

·Assist with month-end reporting as required

Act as backup and support to Senior Managers, Corporate Finance

Long-term financing (bond market)

·Receive and review weekly emails from banks on debt capital markets

·Keep abreast of and liaise with dealers and bankers

·Provide weekly updates regarding debt capital markets

·Monitor, analyse and benchmark the company's bonds portfolio

·Monitor new issues of comparable credits and peers (e.g., other railroads)

·Assist in various ad-hoc projects and requests, as needed

·Support the preparation of presentations for the Board, Senior Management and Rating Agencies

·Conduct Peer Benchmarking analysis (quarterly financial reports, financial ratios, etc.), create comprehensible charts and tables using models

·Prepare reports and carry out analyses for various Corporate Finance projects upon request

Working Conditions

The job is primarily carried out in an office environment. Minimal travel requirements
(less than 5%). Overtime hours including weekends are required occasionally.

Requirements

Corporate Experience

·Minimum 2 years in a related area
