About the Role
We are currently recruiting a Service Manager local to the Fort McMurray area to oversee the field service team, shop, and facility service operations while maintaining a positive overall experience with our customers for their fire suppression needs.
Apart from operational execution, this role will oversee the profitability and revenue growth of the branch by providing strong leadership to a team of up to 15 direct reports and their front-line technicians across multiple product and service lines of business. Your role will have a strong people leadership focus, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and mentoring in a technical team.
You will have a proven track record of success and relevant work experience in managing a service operation in fire suppression services and work effectively with other departments such as Customer Service, Sales, Accounting, Warehousing, Procurement, and Management to achieve overall company objectives.
This role is diverse and requires a strong combination of business acumen, customer focus, and a hands-on approach to team leadership in a technical role.
Main Responsibilities
  • Manage and provide leadership, support, and guidance to the field service supervisors through goal setting, performance management, review of performance commitments, and ongoing dialogue
  • Partner in developing business plans and objectives for the branch to meet overall service objectives
  • Work with the business development team on new opportunities growth of the service team. Work with field supervisors, and design solution specialists on front-end quoting and execution. Manage daily activity on contracts and support the bids and tender process
  • Achieve profitability and effectiveness by maximizing technician labour efficiency and controlling service-related costs relative to the annual budget
  • Manage all customers and subcontractors to ensure excellent service quality
  • Support the field service team in the region to achieve consistency and results as well as support others across the country as required
  • Work closely with the regional administration manager to ensure our service admin and scheduling team provide excellent customer service in an efficient and professional manner
  • The role will also encompass an overview of the health and safety policies and procedures and overall compliance to existing standards including health and safety leadership, maintaining a functioning health and safety committee, and participating in toolbox safety meetings
  • Ensure that site-specific safety requirements are met and implemented and to strive towards an accident-free workplace
  • Manage vehicle maintenance programs and monitor mobile and off-site tools and inventory, vehicles, and trailers; scheduling repairs and maintenance of the branch facility and vehicles is also an integral part of this role
Ideal Qualifications
  • A minimum of 7 years of industry experience in a related field (fire safety, trades, industrial service business or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a supervisory or managerial role, in a technical/industrial and safety-sensitive environment is required
  • Technical degree or industry certifications in one or more of the following: fire alarms, sprinklers, HVAC, or vehicle fire suppression
  • Good comprehension of the service/fire industry and or equivalent technical background
  • Experience working with OHS regulations in a supervisory or management capacity
  • Self-motivated and results orientated and capable of moving easily between operating details and broader service objectives
  • Computer and system savvy
  • Ability to meet tight timelines and adapt to changing priorities
  • This role is based in our Fort McMurray branch but may require occasional travel to meet the needs of our business and customers
