Duties and responsibilities:
Outreach to newcomer families and youth to provide settlement services in Schools
Conduct needs assessments to identify immediate, intermediate and long term settlement needs
Provide newcomer families and youth with settlement informational and referrals to community services and educational resources based on their specific needs
Conduct information and orientation sessions to newcomer families to understand the school system, Canadian society, culture, laws and other aspects of life in Canada
Maintains up to date client and service records and ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of client information
Provide information to school staff on cultural sensitivities and the needs of newcomer families
Promote ECNWCI programs and other community services in Schools
Submit monthly statistical and service reports
Keep updated with changes of policy and service resource
Help develop and maintain relationships between ECNWCI and community organizations
Attend meetings as required
Carry out any other duties as determined or based on client needs
Requires travelling in the east central SK region.
Qualifications:
University Degree in Social Work, psychology, settlement or related field
Minimum 2 years? experience in assisting newcomers with settlement issues
Extensive knowledge of immigration system, school system and community resources
Current knowledge of legislation, policies and practices affecting newcomers
Good workshop facilitation, presentation and public speaking skills
Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills to work with youth, parents and school staff
Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
Other Qualifications:
Fluency in second language is considered an asset
Proficient computer skills
Valid Saskatchewan Drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle as this position travels at least 2-3 days a week
