Description
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Addictions Support Worker provides support to women who are struggling with substance misuse due to the trauma from violence and abuse in their family system and intimate partners. This project would provide in house addictions programming addictions education for both in house and outreach clients. As well, referrals and planning for addressing substance misuse.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provision of addictions assessment and referrals to outside agencies such as detox, treatment centers etc.
Utilizing the trauma informed and harm reduction lens, provides support through the development of sobriety planning while women are in shelter.
Review and support after treatment plans and connect women with the resources in the community that support the treatment plan.
Develop and facilitate a group once per week for in house shelter clients that provides support and education about substance misuse.
Addictions education programming
Engage Indigenous community partners in programming.
KNOWLEDGE
A strong knowledge of the best practices associated with treating addictions and/or addiction related issues and the effects of addictions and/or addiction related issues and the effects of addiction on families and the community.
Knowledge of domestic violence and intergenerational violence and the impacts on the family system.
A strong knowledge of the differing modalities of assessment of addictions, stages of change, motivational assessment.
COMPETENCIES
Ability to accurately assess addiction and/or addiction related issues and make appropriate recovery plans and referrals.
Be able to facilitate a group and understand group dynamics.
QUALIFICATIONS
Recognized Chemical Dependency education and experience or a Social Work degree with Addictions focus with experience working in the Addictions field.
Experience with group facilitation and client advocacy
