Responsibilities
Tasks
- Operate metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, shape or straighten sheet metal
- Operate laser cutters
- Grind and buff seams, joints and rough surfaces
- Schedule work
- Calculate heating and cooling loads, design duct systems and select equipment for residential and small commercial construction
- Inspect products to ensure quality and conformity to specification
- Develop computerized pattern and layout
- Instruct apprentices
- Supervise other workers
- Cut materials using power tools or by hand
- Assemble, erect and install hoisting and rigging equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications
- Fit and join sheet metal parts
- Install sheet metal products according to specifications and building codes
