Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and develop FPI employees in a manner consistent with FPI mission and guiding principles; ensuring employees have the tools and environment to meet their objectives, remain effective and feel appreciated
- Maintain professional business relationships across all departments to create an efficient information channel; share information and keep other informed of important developments
- Implementation and training of Health & Safety programs to ensure compliance with regulations; set a positive example by following regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and maintaining hazard awareness
- Lead and maintain a positive environment focusing on Lean and continuous improvement initiatives
- Supervise a team of unionized employees operating in a dynamic global supply warehousing environment
- Plan, schedule and execute all warehouse activities within the ERP system, including RF barcode picking
- Collaborate with the Order Desk, Distribution, Purchasing and Branch Operations to create shipping and receiving schedules which address the needs of FPI customers
- Ensure exceptional customer service is provided, both internally and externally
- Build and maintain relationships with shipping partners, customs brokers, and suppliers
- Ensure all products are loaded and shipped with order accuracy and are secured to prevent damage
- Ensure all received freight is thoroughly inspected and verified for accuracy; complete all necessary paperwork for the receipt of goods, including steel receiving
- Collaborate with Purchasing to rectify damaged and/or shortages in received freight; Initiate claims processes with vendors and process information for Inspection as needed
- Ensure export compliance by completing all required documentation
- Maintain inventory accuracy by following proper inventory control procedures/policies; collaborate with Inventory Department as necessary
- Manage all miscellaneous shipping requests from various departments
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of parts / products required for production orders; communicate item shortages to the Supply Chain and Manufacturing teams as necessary
- Oversee the manual packaging
- Replenishment of safety supplies and other consumables; Work with the Health and Safety Manager as necessary
- Oversee outside processing product shipments and receipts
- Attend to union/employee related issues as necessary
- Participate in daily production meetings as necessary
- Maintain a current knowledge of the company’s products and SKUs
- Coordinate workflow with other departments and shifts
- Assist with and support team projects and duties as required
- Effective organizational, prioritization and time management skills
- Ability to take initiative and follow through until completion
- Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal)
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationship with management and employees
- Solid knowledge of logistics procedures and Incoterms
- Strong problem solving/analysis skills
- Computer savvy with excellent knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel)
- Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent
- Courses in Supply Chain, Transportation and Logistics, Operations Management, Warehouse/Materials Management, Supervision, Leadership or related is an asset
- Lean Manufacturing training is an asset
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in Supervision in a Distribution/Warehouse environment
- Previous experience working in a union environment would be an asset
- Experience with Lean concepts, team building and continuous improvement tools
- Previous experience with export shipments and resolving delivery/customs clearance issues
- Previous experience working with ERP, barcode and RF technology is an asset
- Experience with ISO9001 quality standard is an asset
