The Shop Design Team

The Shop Design Team is responsible for the Architectural and Brand Design of the North American retail store portfolio, as it relates to the LUSH global portfolio and growth strategy. We lead with curiosity, creativity and ethics at the forefront of our work and decision-making, and strive to produce immersive, experiential spaces for our customers and staff.

The Shop Designer plays an essential role within the design team and wider business in supporting the rollout of new stores, relocations & store expansions. They are a detailed individual who's adapted to finding creative design solutions and has a passion for sustainable practices. They're driven and enjoy working as part of a fun, fast-paced collaborative team.

Reporting to the Shop Design Manager, the Shop Designer is responsible for, but not limited to, the following responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Undertakes due diligence and site research on new projects; paying attention to location demographics and elements of historic and cultural influence, which could help shape the project design brief.
  • Develop full design packages for new stores, Relocations & Expansions, which meet building codes, bi-laws & health & safety. Including schematic drawings, plans, elevations, RCP's, section details and millwork packages.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams, LUSH UK and external vendors to determine best design considerations relating to Project Budget, Construction, MEP, Retail Operations, Visual Merchandising, IT, Brand etc.
  • Prepares presentations and 3D models for the internal approval process, appraisals and project signoff by the senior leadership team.
  • Process and receive constructive feedback from varying stakeholders, while remaining true to design intention and project objectives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction practices, principals and ADA requirements
  • Collaborate and direct external consultants on design intent, deadline deliverable and milestone management, ensuring the acquisition of all permits and approvals within timelines
  • Plan checks and redlines drawing sets with Construction PM to ensure all design intent and detail has been captured by external consultants.
  • Produces fixture package for internal woodshop team.
  • Provides project coordination and acts as point of contact for all project design related issues and questions.
  • Works closely with partner Architects and Contractors on answering RFI's
  • Attends site visits during construction phases to ensure design intent and execution are met.
  • Manages project specific post-open debriefs and communicates learnings to a wider group.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of related work experience in commercial or retail design in a brand or practice environment.
  • Degree / Diploma in Interior Architecture, Interior Design or equivalent
  • Experience with mentoring junior designers
  • Fluent in Autocad, Sketchup, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Proven knowledge of building codes
  • Experience using Microsoft Programs (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate actively and proactively with others in a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and findings to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Ethically minded individual with a passion for sustainable processes and material consideration.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to continually drive work forward while managing multiple projects and deliverables, demonstrating personal accountability.
  • Strong organizational, and analytical skills with an attention to detail and quality
  • Leads with courage, honesty and kindness, and champions the same in others

Preferred:

  • Experience and passion for mentoring and coaching others strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a Retail or similar environment
