Position: Shuttle Driver (Part-Time)
Location: Conestoga College – Various Campuses (with travel between campuses)
Reports to: Shuttle Fleet Supervisor
Time Requirement: 22-25 hours per week (some evenings and weekends may be required)
Hourly Wage Range (upon hire): $25.00 to $29.40

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Shuttle Driver is responsible for safely operating CSI shuttle buses in accordance with assigned schedules and must also ensure that the vehicle is in good operating condition at all times. While picking up, transporting, and dropping off students, the Shuttle Driver must maintain order and security on the shuttle and obey all laws, regulations, and rules of conduct. The Shuttle Driver must also deal with students in a courteous and respectful manner.
This position reports directly to the Shuttle Fleet Supervisor. In carrying out the duties of this position, a great deal of autonomy is exercised with final overview by the Shuttle Fleet Supervisor. It is also important that the Shuttle Driver works extremely closely with the Shuttle Fleet Supervisor to ensure that they are up to date on the basic overall operations of CSI’s shuttle services. In all activities, it is crucial that the Shuttle Driver recognizes that safety and service to students is a top priority.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate shuttle buses safely and efficiently according to all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures in a manner that minimizes risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life
- Pick up, transport, and deliver students in accordance with a set schedule
- Ensure students are aware of rules and responsibilities as passengers
- Maintain schedules and maintain order/discipline on the shuttle bus during scheduled shuttle times and special activities
- Make note of any behavioural issues or complaints from student users about schedules or the level/quality of service, and respond in a courteous and respectful manner
- Track and record daily shuttle bus usage counts
- Complete daily safety and maintenance checks
- Perform all minor maintenance duties as needed such as checking fluid levels, changing the oil, filling the fuel tank, etc.
- Advise the Shuttle Fleet Supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
- Clean the bus as scheduled and/or required
- Ensure shuttle buses are stored safely and securely
Other General Duties
- Work in accordance with corporate by-laws, policies, and procedures, particularly to the CSI Mission Statement
- Adhere strictly to health & safety laws, policies, and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality for business practices
- Work in an organized manner where detail, accuracy and confidentiality are critical
- Mandatory attendance at CSI related training days
- Completion of training sessions and certification programs related to First Aid and CPR, air brake (Z) endorsement, etc. (funded by CSI)
- Complete organizational/special projects as assigned by the Transportation and Maintenance Coordinator and/or Shuttle Fleet Supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands
This position will spend long hours sitting and operating a large vehicle, which can cause muscle strain. Lifting of supplies and materials up to 30lbs will also be required.
Environmental Conditions
This position performs work a busy, enclosed vehicle and may be faced with frequent interruptions on a regular basis. Frequent travel between campuses will be required. This position may operate vehicles in snowy, icy, or wet road conditions. Some work will be required after office hours and on weekends.
Sensory Demands
This position will require long periods of intense concentration. The incumbent must also spend long hours driving which requires visual focus, attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
Mental Demands
The incumbent will be expected to consistently meet a set driving schedule and must also be able to deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 3 years driving with a ‘B’ class driver’s licence
- Must have or be able to complete air brake (Z) endorsement program
- Must be able to provide a clean driver’s abstract
- Candidates will be asked to demonstrate the following:
- Understanding of transportation-related rules, regulations, and best-practice
- Understanding of shuttle bus maintenance best-practice
- Cultural competence and ability to show respect to students who come from a variety of socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
