Alberta Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Silviculture Foresterto work out of our mill site in the Athabasca Area, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting Forest Resources Team activities through an office/field application to ensure that production, quality,environmental and legal requirements are met in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage Al-Pac’s Silviculture program as well as all project management phases related to Silviculture activities required to meet Al-Pac’s reforestation liabilities.
  • All office and field work related to the planning and implementation of Silviculture activities, including site preparation, planting & herbicide projects, as well as Silviculture surveys
  • Maintain company records and data, track costs, and report Silviculture activities as required by Al-Pac policies, procedures and government regulation. This includes Al-Pac’s reforestation liability.
  • Manage and implement Silviculture treatment regimes and calculate reforestation rates.
  • Prepare project budgets, and corporate financial reporting summaries as required.
  • Liaise with third party consultants to meet annual reforestation requirements.
  • Collaboration with Government personnel to obtain plan approval and work with local quota holders to integrate plans.
  • Negotiate, administer, and execute contracts, including those related to FRIAA related projects.
  • Manage and liaise internal and external stakeholders, and promote local indigenous initiatives.
  • Collaborate and support other Al-Pac business units, including Operations, Transportation, Logistics, Indigenous Relations and Science & Certification business units.

Role Requirements

  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Forestry Silviculture.
  • B.Sc. in Forestry or diploma from a recognized forestry school or equivalent (must be eligible for professional designation).
  • Extensive experience with Government of Alberta regulations, policy and processes related to Silviculture.
  • Operational knowledge/experience in the Forestry sector.
  • Experience working with stakeholders (Indigenous and other communities, forestry, utilities, and energy companies, Non-Government Organizations, and government agencies).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Adept with change management.
  • Excellent computer skills, organization, negotiating, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing leadership and professional development.
  • Comfortable with flexible work hours and extensive travel commitments.
  • Team player with the ability to work with both internal customers and external consulting professionals, as well as the ability to work independently with a focus on details and achieving results.
  • Data maintenance, analysis and manipulation to meet company & regulatory requirements. Can recommend options and has extensive knowledge of tools, models, systems & processes required to track, maintain and report on all Silviculture program activities.

Considered an asset:

  • Leadership experience.
  • Experience using the Land Resource Management tool (LRM) and ArcMap.
  • Thorough knowledge of strategic planning.
