Scope
The City of Surrey is seeking an experienced Special Events Marketing Coordinator (SEMC) who will be responsible for the development and execution of marketing plans, communications strategies and logistics for key signature events-including Surrey Canada Day, Surrey Fusion Festival, Tree Lighting Festival, Party for the Planet, and the Mayor's Evening of Giving-as well as providing general marketing support for City programs, initiatives and special projects.
Responsibilities
    • Researches, strategizes, implements, and evaluates marketing and promotions campaigns for Surrey's major events and overall marketing budget. • Creates event communications plans and workplans, provides branding direction and project management for marketing campaigns. • Supervises Communications Coordinators to implement campaign tactics. • Oversees major event microsite content, UX, and website content alignment with communication strategies. • Writes and edits media releases, advisories, and blogs, as well as grant applications. • Conducts surveys, analyses data and reports on campaign results. • Oversees content creation and hiring of photographers and videographers. • Oversees the development of event print materials and large-format signage, wayfinding, stage scrims etc. • Oversees media partner contracts and negotiations; procures marketing related contracts. • Manages event ticketing requests, fundraising, and related communications. • Liaise with Project Manager as required to advise on event operations, staging, crowd control, décor, programming, etc. to ensure relevancy to attendees and alignment with promotional strategy. • Liaise and identify opportunities with the Indigenous community related to all signature events. • Overseas public relations inquiries and leads crisis communications planning and responses.

Characterized by considerable independence of judgment and use of initiative, work at this level requires strategic planning skills, the ability to advise staff of effective marketing, media and promotional techniques; and experience working closely with graphic designers, communication coordinators, photographers, videographers and corporate event sponsors.
Representing the City of Surrey to the public, professional colleagues and outside agencies, the SEMC will sit on various committees both internally and externally and will be required to work a flexible, self-directed schedule.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
    • Highly developed communications and business writing skills. • Strong public speaking, oral communication and customer service skills. • Knowledge of media sponsorship approaches and best practices in event marketing and digital communications. • Demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative. • Event industry experience is an asset. • Graduated from a university or college level program in a related discipline supplemented by formal business training and 3-5 years of progressively responsible relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
