Job Summary
Provide direction and leadership and make a difference in your community!
The Youth JusticeTeam Leader is responsible for supervising youth probation officers within the Service Delivery Area (SDA) and for ensuring:

• staff receive timely and sufficient training
• local practice is consistent with legislation and established policies, standards and procedures
• issues and inquiries regarding youth probation are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner
  

Job Requirements:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field (Human Services field includes Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing,History, Political Science) AND
• A minimum two (2) years' experience as an Adult or Youth Probation Officer in a Canadian jurisdiction.
  

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• All education credentials will be subject to verification and validation as per ministry process.
• In addition, if your education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to have it assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Service .
  

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which includes a Criminal Record Check and a Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e., from another Canadian Province).
  

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING:

• Applicants who have current Youth Justice delegation or who have held Youth Justice delegation within the last 2 years.
• Five (5) years or more experience as an Adult or Youth Probation Officer in a Canadian jurisdiction.
• Six (6) months or more experience supervising in a Youth Justice or equivalent setting.
• Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
  

WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS:

• Successful candidates must be able to meet the requirements of delegation under the Youth Justice Act (YJA) and Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) within the first 6 months of hiring.
• Travel, as necessary, is a requirement; therefore, transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the ministry.
• May be required to travel in adverse (reasonable) weather conditions.
• May be required to use your own vehicle, with appropriate insurance, on an expense account basis.
• This position requires irregular work hours, including some evenings and weekends.
• Opportunity to work with families facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant dealings with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around volatile parents and/or children in crisis.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
