Spring/Summer Job Opportunities
The Canadian Ecology Centre is a non-profit outdoor environmental and science education centre located within Samuel

de Champlain Provincial Park, Mattawa Ontario. We deliver outdoor and environmental education programs to schools

(K-12) and educational groups as well as youth camps, high school courses and PD opportunities for teachers.

The CEC is currently looking for the following positions as part of our Canada Summer Jobs Program Funding.

To be eligible, candidates must be under the age of 30.

Positions:

Day Camp Coordinator (up to 8 weeks)
The Day Camp Coordinator will be responsible for planning and running our 5-day summer camps at the North Bay/Mattawa
Conservation Authority building on Janey Avenue in North Bay as well as 2 weeks that are run out of the Canadian Ecology
Centre. The ideal candidate will have previous day camp experience, have experience in planning and delivering programs,
good group and time management skills, and a good understanding of environmental science, outdoor skills and forest
school philosophy. Standard First Aid and CPR required as a minimum. Successful candidates must have reliable
transportation to and from the camps in North Bay, a bus from North Bay to and from camp is available for the 2 weeks at
the CEC. For students in post secondary. (1 position available, $19.50/hr)

Day Camp Counselor (up to 8 weeks - pending funding)
Day Camp Counselors will report to the Day Camp Coordinator helping to facilitate daily camp activities and routines. The
ideal candidate will be available for all 7 camps (5 weeks in North Bay and 2 weeks in Mattawa), has experience with youth
camps as a camper or counselor. Successful candidates must have reliable transportation to and from the camps in North
Bay, a bus from North Bay to and from camp is available for the 2 weeks at the CEC.
For students in High school and/or post secondary. (up to 2-3 positions available, $18.00/hr)

Bilingual Outdoor Education/Science Specialist (up to 16 weeks - pending funding)
Help develop, plan and facilitate activities and programs (in both French and English languages) focused on environmental
education, nature awareness, outdoor technology (GPS) and wilderness survival skills during Spring School Group Program
(May/June). Plan, facilitate, and support education programs designed for other clientele during the summer months
including summer day camps, training opportunities, family and individual groups, hospitality/hosting, etc. Training and/or
certificates in Wilderness Advance First Aid, NLS/Bronze Cross as well as Canoe Certifications are recommended but may
not be required. Minimum SFA and CPR required. Room and board available as part of contract.
For students in post secondary (1-2 positions, $20.00/hr).

Short-term Spring and Summer Contracts
Candidates who are interested in working short-term contracts with our spring (May/June—Bilingual only) and/or summer
day camp programs (ie. 1-week only) or a 2-week session of our Credit Course In-residence Program should submit a cover
letter and resume with stated availability and interest.
Certifications in Advanced Wilderness First Aid, NLS or Bronze Cross and Canoe Certifications are required for working as a
recreation specialist in our 2-week summer school program.
