Job Summary
Apply your technical expertise in Agricultural Land Protection
An independent administrative tribunal, the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) is the provincial body responsible for administering the provincial Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), governed by the Agricultural Land Commission Act (ALCA), Agricultural Land Reserve General Regulation and Agricultural Land Reserve Use Regulation. The Commission is hosted by a Ministry of the provincial government; however, the work of the ALC is carried out by an independent government-appointed Chair and board of directors who report directly to the legislature via the host Ministry. The work of the Commission is supported by a team of technical and professional staff.
The mandate is set out in Section 6 of the ALCA and guides all work carried out by the Commission and staff. The work of the ALC to preserve the agricultural land reserve and encourage farming is focused on strategic land use policy, engagement in land use planning and compliance and enforcement, in addition to land use application review and adjudication.
The ALR Resource Technician provides technical advice related to Notice of Intent (NOI) proposals for the placement of fill, removal of soil, construction of residential/agricultural/accessory structures, and other agricultural purposes in the ALR as per ALC legislation and policies with oversight from the Senior Agrologist.
Job Requirements:
• A diploma or higher in agrology, physical geography, earth science, environmental science or other natural resource field.
• Experience performing technical duties and/or working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
• Experience processing permits, applications, or authorizations related to resource management in a local government, provincial government, federal government or other related context.
• Experience interpreting provincial or federal legislation, regulation, bylaws or policies.
• Experience working within the BC agricultural landscape and/or the BC Land Capability System.
Provisos/Willingness Statements:
• Must be willing and physically able to conduct a few site inspections, if any, which may include travel by vehicle and/or on foot in all weather conditions.
• Must have and maintain a valid B.C. driver's licence or equivalent.
• Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.

About this Position:
Currently there is one (1) permanent opportunity available in Burnaby.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent vacancies.
