Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Maintenance & Projects, the Water Technician/Water Treatment Operator is responsible for assisting with commissioning and operating the Drainage Water Treatment Plant (DWTP) seasonally, monitoring the seepage collection and other site systems, responding to alarms, conducting maintenance activities at the DWTP, performing site security checks, and conducting geotechnical dam inspections at the Sullivan Mine. In addition to these duties, the Water Technician/Water Treatment Operator is responsible for conducting surface and groundwater sampling and assisting with data management and interpretation to support closure activities. The role also supports water treatment operations or environmental sampling at other legacy properties throughout BC, Quebec, and NT and may require travel and field activities up to 3-4 weeks in duration. The successful candidate would work in conjunction with other operators employed by Teck on a rotating shift who operate the DWTP and conduct inspections and monitoring of the seepage collection system. The position is in Kimberley, BC.
The DWTP is operated seasonally on a 24/7 basis, typically March-June and August-October, and is the primary duty for this position. Other site monitoring duties occur daily throughout the year. Dayshift and nightshift is normally 12 hours where the operator performs dual function of seepage collection monitoring and plant operation. When the plant is not operating, dayshift is typically 10 hours. Nightshift is typically 12 hours when the DWTP is operating.
Position may involve flexible hours of work with occasional changes to job requirements including on-call duties.
Responsibilities
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Responsible for obtaining surface and groundwater samples, processing and ensuring compliant shipments to contract laboratories
Collect field data and water samples from seepage collection system infrastructure
Support data collection and database maintenance
Maintain online instruments as the need arises
Perform routine site surveillance and inspection activities
Perform routine and preventative maintenance activities as the need arises
Administrative duties appropriate and necessary for the smooth implementation of the job role
Take part in continuous improvement efforts, focusing on reducing risk, including facility performance and operating costs
Participate in the design effort for upgrades to the DWTP from an operational perspective
Ensure all tasks and work are planned and completed in line with Teck’s commitment to safety
Ensure the application of safe work practices through proper housekeeping, monitoring the use of safety equipment and adherence to field level hazard assessments (FLHAs) and standard policies and procedures (SP&Ps)
During times when the DWTP is not operating, support water treatment operations at other legacy properties – specifically, Pine Point mine in the North West Territories and Louvicourt in Quebec. This may include compliance monitoring, water sampling and maintenance and operation of water treatment equipment including pumps, valves and various equipment and may require field work/travel for up to 3-4 weeks in duration.

Qualifications
Completion of Grade 12 and be a minimum of 18 years of age
Valid driver’s licence (non-restricted)
Level 1 first aid
Ability to perform the physical demands of this role
Level 1 water treatment and or water distribution certificate, or background in environmental technology or science, would be considered an asset
Previous experience and familiarity with maintenance processes and system software used at site, such as Factory Talk, would be an asset
Detailed knowledge of water treatment operations, maintenance, environmental sampling and on-site laboratory practices would be considered an asset
Motivated to ensure compliance of all operational, maintenance and laboratory procedures
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint
Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment including troubleshooting and making recommendations
Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills
Advanced analytical, problem solving, and decision making abilities
Salary Range: $80,000 - $99,000
