Syme Structural Engineering Ltd. (SSEL) is a Salmon Arm based structural consulting firm serving the North Okanagan and Shuswap. SSEL serves clients mainly from the residential, commercial, and agricultural sectors and has been employed on projects ranging in scale from small residential renovations to large agricultural barns.
The role of EIT includes:
Performing analysis of climatic loads on structures
Designing structural members and systems according to Building Code requirements
Conducting field reviews to ensure construction is in conformance with SSEL standards and specifications
Drafting structural designs in AutoCAD LT or with hand sketches
Coordinating work with drafting department and with project engineers
Preparing technical reports on structural projects
Following SSEL procedures outlined in their PPMP program
The ideal candidate has a degree in Civil/Structural engineering and is registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training with EGBC as well as the following qualifications and qualities:
Strong knowledge of wood, steel, and reinforced concrete design
Experience in the Structural Engineering or construction fields an asset
Proficient in AutoCAD LT, Microsoft Office suite
Proficiency in S-Frame, Woodworks Sizer, Simpson Anchor Designer an asset
Hard working, self motivated, able to work independently and in a team environment
Communicates well both written and verbally
Must be legally allowed to work in Canada
Must live in or be willing to relocate/commute to Salmon Arm, BC
