REPORTS TO: Manager, Structures
DEPARTMENT: Rail Infrastructure
LOCATION: Englehart/ Cochrane
REFERENCE: 200-27-25
SALARY: $80,730- $94,990

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Structures Supervisor is responsible for providing quality supervision and technical inspection of construction works in the rail infrastructure department, ensuring compliance with contracts, ONTC standards and policies, health and safety and environmental protection regulations.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise and monitor progress of the daily work of the contractor on bridge and culvert construction projects and report to Manager, Structures and engineering consultant.
  • Ensure that Contractors perform work in compliance with contract documents, construction schedule and other ONTC standards and procedures, including health and safety policies, environmental regulations.
  • Review and coordinate the quality and type of materials delivered to sites as well as the methods and means and finished products to ensure conformance with designs and specifications.
  • Provide inspection of various items, recognize any contractor deficiencies in accordance with the contract specifications and drawings.
  • Verify quantities, prepare monthly progress reports of work completed by the contractor
  • Maintain daily site records, construction photographs at all key stages of the works and suitably filed and titled, site diary, etc.
  • Conduct site safety and environmental inspections on a regular basis, notifying appropriate parties of any violations.
  • Perform other duties as required from the infrastructure group.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Civil or Structural Engineering degree or college diploma in a related discipline preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in a technical inspection or supervisory role; previous experience in rail industry will be considered an asset.
  • Technical knowledge of transportation, transit and municipal infrastructure construction projects gained through practical experience.
  • This is a site-based position. Required to attend site daily at stipulated times with possibility of night or weekend work. Must be willing to travel frequently with overnight stays (up to 95% of the time)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management, organizational and record keeping skills to coordinate with contractors and track quantities
  • Experience with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s Construction Administration and Inspection Task Manual and Ontario Provincial Standards would be an asset.
  • Successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Valid G driver’s license in Ontario.
  • Must be able to work out doors in extreme weather conditions and to travel over rough terrain.
