The Environment Section is looking for two summer students who are passionate about Climate Change and sustainability. As part of the team, you will assist in the implementation and update of the Climate Change Action Plan, including internal and external stakeholder engagement, event planning, presentations, and research.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Climate Change Coordinator, the successful candidate(s) will:
Assist with the implementation of key actions in the Climate Change Action Plan
Assist with planning and developing outreach initiatives for the Climate Change Action Plan update
Support the development and delivery of presentations, surveys, workshops, and training sessions
Assist with general event planning and logistics
Assist with the development of stakeholder engagement sessions for internal and external audiences
Assist with promotional marketing and social media content
Provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource
Provide general support to the Environmental Outreach Team/Climate Change Team as required
Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
Secondary School Diploma with current enrolment in a post-secondary education program in environmental studies, environmental science, geography, environmental education or related field, returning to school full time in September 2024
Special consideration will be given to candidates that have previous, related experience in community development, public policy, event planning and/or outreach as well as interest and/or experience in Climate Change, environmental issues, communications, and/or marketing
Excellent organization and time management skills are required
Excellent communication skills (public speaking, presentations, writing), including the ability to communicate with a diverse audience, as required
Ideal candidates are self-starters with the ability to work well independently and as part of a cooperative team environment
Demonstrated ability to apply excellent customer service skills with the public and City staff
Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office Suite applications and databases
Must have a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License and an excellent driving record
Ability to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends, early mornings and evenings as required (up to 35 hours per week)
Some heavy lifting will be required (30-50 lbs work-related equipment)
Hourly Rate/Salary: 18.59 - 22.13
