POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the University Librarian, the Student Engagement & Community Outreach Librarian will:

  • Coordinate and implement Library promotional campaigns within KPU and to the broader community
  • Work with the Student Success Librarian as needed on student and high school outreach events and initiatives
  • Provide reference, research and instructional services to our diverse student body and to our faculty

The successful candidate will:

  • Envision and create promotional material, in various print and online formats, in collaboration with KPU’s Marketing department when appropriate
  • Provide guidance to the Library’s Documentation Technician on the creation of print marketing materials
  • Plan, collaborate, and implement events and displays to engage with KPU and the broader community
  • Create engaging promotional and informational content for the Library’s website and social media
  • Provide reference service in all disciplines as a member of a team serving students and faculty in an active teaching and learning environment
  • Work with other librarians and staff on project teams and committees
  • Develop professional knowledge and skills on a continuing basis
  • Act as the library’s liaison with the Anthropology Departments’ faculty, staff and students by:
    • Promoting library services, collections and resources
    • Responding to departmental requirements, involving others in the library as appropriate
    • Developing and maintaining library guides related to the liaison area
    • In collaboration with the Technical Services Department, selecting and ordering materials in liaison areas within guidelines, and providing support for other collection activities
    • In collaboration with the E-Resources Librarian, selecting electronic resources in liaison areas within guidelines
    • Providing instruction and assistance to students and faculty in the use of Library resources through instructional seminars and individual consultations
    • Communicating with faculty and students in liaison areas about developments in the library and trends in scholarly communication and publishing, such as open access
    • Providing these services to other liaison areas as required

Some weekend and evening work may be required. This position is based at the Surrey Campus, but the candidate will be required to travel to other campuses.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Broad knowledge of electronic resources & bibliographic tools, the reference interview, and academic information literacy concepts and skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity with relevant technology products (Moodle, MS Teams, LibraryH3lp software used to deliver chat reference service via AskAway and Springshare Libguides)
  • Experience working on promotional initiatives in a university setting
  • Experience successfully organizing events and programming
  • Experience working with and creating dynamic content for social media and comfortable using web tools such as Drupal and HTML

Other Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic promotion and marketing skills and approaches
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collegial team environment
  • Superior written, interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff in a friendly and professional manner within an EDI positive organization
  • Demonstrated skill in planning and delivering instruction in both one-on-one and class environments
  • Willingness to actively serve on Library and KPU committees
  • Flexibility to work remotely or at any campus library; this may include weekends and evenings

SALARY INFORMATION

Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.

This competition is for a maximum FTE of 100% (NR2). When possible, priority will be given to the candidate(s) who can maximize the FTE either individually, or collectively, as such please indicate on your application your preferred workload percentage.
