Lakeland College is seeking candidates for our pulse research program based out of Edmonton, Alberta. The ideal applicant will be a science minded individual that is passionate about agriculture and agri-food systems. Successful candidates will spend time in the field and will have the opportunity to operate various small plot equipment, develop trailer towing skills, and collect and analyze data.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with and support daily operations for agronomy research projects in the field
- As part of the research team, assist with seed and seedbed preparation, seeding, treatment application, plot and site maintenance, chemical application, soil and tissue sampling, and harvest
- Follow research trial protocols
- Assist with data collection, data entry, and record keeping
- Assist with projects done in collaboration with industry and government programs
- Assist with disease and insect surveys
- Assist with transportation and operation of various agricultural equipment at research locations surrounding Research Station locations
Job Requirements
- Post-secondary education in a related field (biology, environmental sciences, etc), preference will be given to agriculture students
- The ability to work both collaboratively and independently to solve problems in a dynamic environment
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Previous experience operating agricultural equipment is an asset but not required
- Some evening and weekend working demands in peak seasons, as well as occasional out of town work
- Willingness to work in a variety of environmental conditions
Additional Information
There is a total of 3 full time, summer AUPE appointments located at the Crop Diversification Center in Edmonton, AB commencing May 1, 2024, and ending August 31, 2024, working a minimum 36.25 hour week.
