Position Summary
The main role of the Sales Associate is to greet customers on arrival and assist with any questions they have about the purchase they want to make. They will efficiently complete sales and help the customer with returns, refunds, and resolve common complaints.
Responsibilities
Selling landscape supplies to the public and contractors, including assisting customers in selecting interlock, natural stone, mulch, etc.
General administrative and clerical support
Answering phones, taking customer orders, and setting up deliveries
Greeting customers, responding to questions, improving engagement with merchandise
Operating cash registers and POS systems, managing financial transactions, and balancing drawers
Providing superior knowledge of products, services, and policies
Providing quotations and calculating customer landscape plans
Answering customer questions and resolving any complaints with empathy and tact
Introducing promotions and opportunities to customers
Directing customers to merchandise
Ensuring an orderly sales office, maintaining cleanliness and stock
Adhering to all health and safety procedures
Other additional tasks as required
Consistently exhibiting behaviour reflective of the Hard-Co Sand & Gravel professional image.
Qualifications
Retail sales experience; POS experience is an asset
Interlock installation knowledge is an asset but not necessary
Excellent customer service skills
A professional appearance
Able to maintain a positive attitude and focus on customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment
Able to multitask and learn quickly
Able to work well individually and as a team
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent math, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Computer efficiency
Must be able to work on Saturdays (Saturday lunches provided)
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Sedentary – sitting or standing for long periods most of the time, but may involve walking for brief periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in an office.
Ability to stand for an extended period of time
Move and handle boxes of merchandise and products throughout the sales office, which entails light lifting
