The Opportunity: Summer Student, Grounds - Temporary
We are now accepting applications for Summer Students to join the botanical gardens, greenhouse and agricultural plots team from April 29, 2024 to August 30, 2024. The work week will consist of 40 hours and may require some weekend work.

The Summer Student roles in Botanical Gardens, Greenhouse and Agriculture Plots are excellent opportunities to gain experience in the industry and apply your enthusiasm to learn and grow!

Responsibilities may include:
  • General and specialized landscape, container, bed maintenance operations and activities.
  • Operate and maintain landscape and greenhouse equipment such as mowers, string trimmers, tractors, aerators, sprayers etc.
  • Assist with various functions in the greenhouse.
  • Support the team to ensure best practices and standards are followed
  • Work successfully as a team member, as well as with limited supervision

Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Successful candidates must be secondary or post-secondary students prior to and/or immediately following their work period.
  • Due to the physically demanding nature of these positions as well as the environmental working conditions, you must be physically fit and able to work outdoors for extended periods.
  • You will be a self-motivated team player and possess the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Current Criminal Reference check that is free of any offenses.
  • Must respect and actively promote health and safety policies.
  • You must provide and wear CSA approved footwear and wear the provided safety glasses and all other appropriate PPE
  • Successfully complete the provided WHMIS certification training

Compensation is $15.00 to $16.00 per hour plus an additional 14% in lieu of vacation and named statutory holidays.
