POSITION

Worksite: Chilliwack Secondary School

Contract Type: Temporary, Full-Time

Assignment Area(s): Learning Assistance, Resource & Collaboration Teacher

Salary Range: $50,000 to $107,000 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: Immediately - June 30, 2024

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

• extensive academic training and post graduate coursework in the following areas: students with special needs; assessment/testing theory and practice (Level B); strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum; collaborative practices, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) practices

• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services

• demonstrated experience and ability in being able to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, administration and interpretation of Level B Assessments including the WIAT, PPVT, Key Math and TOWL

• demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs and learning disabilities

• knowledge of, and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel

• demonstrated understanding of and successful experience in teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, chronic health and physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities as defined by the Ministry of Education

• demonstrated capabilities in working effectively and collaboratively with classroom teachers and as a member of a School Based Team

• demonstrated ability and experience collaborating with teachers to co-plan and co-deliver instruction that meets the needs of all learners through universal lesson design

• demonstrated ability in working as a Case Manager for students including interacting with students, families, school, district, and outside agencies

• demonstrated ability to motivate, and provide success for struggling learners

• demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of learning disabilities and implementing strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum

• willingness to cover the classes of other teachers to provide collaboration opportunities for other teachers

• demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to a variety of classroom assignments at the secondary level

• demonstrated ability to motivate and provide success for students who experience difficulties with learning and require additional support through student services

• knowledgeable about, and committed to balanced assessment practices

• demonstrated excellent classroom management behaviour management and classroom organization skills

• commitment to and proven ability in involving parents as partners in the classroom

• commitment to meeting the needs of young adults and adolescents in a supportive, caring environment featuring all teachers as advisors

• exemplary work ethic and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work as an effective team member
