Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role
Schedule: 14 days on, 14 days off - 12 hour days
Position Reports To:Tailings Dam Engineer
Position Overview
The Tailings Technician will report to the Tailings Dam Engineer who will direct tasks in the office and in the field. Field assignments will include observation, collection of data including piezometer, settlement plates, slope inclinometers and water level readings and other survey and GPS field work. Field work could occur in any weather and during all seasons. Office work will primarily be reporting, inputting data into GTILT and manage the database systems using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. The role will require strict adherence with company policy (including the OMS) to comply with government regulations and commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Strong commitment and adherence to all Safety Policies and Procedures
Conducting regular piezometer, settlement plates, slope inclinometers and water level readings and other survey and GPS field work readings, inputting data into spreadsheets and producing reports
Performing repairs on piezometer dataloggers and ensure efficient monitoring of instrumentation on site
Managing instrumentation database and working closely with GIS Department
Conducting Site Investigation for the tailings impoundment systems
Assisting with drilling and test pit programs
Survey and GPS field work
Ongoing data inventory management
Mapping
Qualifications
Mining or Civil Technology Diploma or similar combination of experience/training
1-5 years industry experience, preferably mining or heavy civil earthworks construction
Valid drivers license required
Strong computer skills, familiarity with MS Office, MS Access, and MS Excel skills would be desirable
Familiarity with GTILT Software would be considered an asset
Experience monitoring geotechnical instrumentation would be desirable
QA/QC experience for large earthworks projects would be considered an asset
Working Conditions
Field 80% & Office 20%
Occasional moderate lifting required (50 lbs)
