The Tax Manager will be accountable to the tax compliance process and tax accounting function. In addition, you will manage direct and indirect tax, as well as tax matters associated with enterprise initiatives and business transactions.

What you will do
- Oversee, communicate and be responsible for tax planning and structuring for Securian Canada and related entities;
- Be able to present results, findings and proposal to senior leadership team;
- Manage the implementation, maintenance, and execution of tax planning and transfer pricing methodologies;
- Own all matters relating to internal tax compliance;
- Provide strategic counsel and in-depth analysis on multifaceted tax implications pertaining to high-level business decisions, intricate financial structures, and complex transactions;
- Develop and execute tax strategies aimed at optimizing the company's financial performance while meticulously navigating the intricate landscape of Canadian tax laws and regulations;
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all corporate tax, premium tax, sale tax filings and remittances, ensuring adherence to intricate regulatory frameworks and standards;
- Forge robust collaborative partnerships with internal stakeholders across diverse departments, including Finance, Legal, Product & Pricing, and Business operations, to ensure seamless alignment and integration of tax strategies with broader organizational objectives;
- Proactively and effectively support the management of tax audits and assessments by performing technical analysis and gathering documentation in support of the audit process;
- Prepare estimates of and monitor tax payments/refunds to assist Treasury with short and long-term cash tax forecasts;
- Be responsible for Canadian tax accounts for financial reporting purposes to ensure activity and balances are reconciled and appropriately reflect the Company’s tax position and status;
- Be also responsible for the completion of the quarterly and annual Canadian and income tax provisions, financial statement notes disclosures and supporting analysis;
- Own all tax accounts and tax authority relationships;
- Work with Parent Company to assist on US tax related matters such as transfer pricing and Subpar F;
- Provide valuable insight and technical tax expertise, assisting with enterprise initiatives and business transactions;
- Participate in special projects and lead tax technical research;
- Consistently monitor and evaluate the internal processes and guidelines to ensure efficiency and provide recommendations on optimizing and automating the tax function while minimizing tax risks;
- May be required to lead team members including goal setting, performance reviews, coaching, driving corporate objective;
- Stay at the vanguard of emerging industry trends, evolving best practices, and emerging tax methodologies, synthesizing and integrating cutting-edge insights to fortify the company's tax strategy and resilience.
What you will bring
- The education. A licensed CPA with a minimum 7 years of related experience. Preferably attended CICA in depth tax course, CICA international tax course, and demonstrated ability to oversee complex tax matters.
- The knowledge & the experience. Strong Canadian corporate tax knowledge, sales tax, and premium tax knowledge. Thorough understanding of tax accounting and working experienced on enterprise projects. Knowledge of transfer pricing is an asset.
- The skills. Demonstrated ability to work with and manage internal parties and external advisors in relation to large scale transfer pricing planning, documentation, and audit defense projects. Ability to identify opportunities and execute plans for continuous improvement. Strong analytical capability and skilled in implementing processes and controls. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, combined with business acumen. Also able to express facts and ideas in writing in a clear, convincing, and organized manner, and listen effectively, and clarify information as needed to tax and non-tax internal and external stakeholders.
- The drive. Focus, highly motivated results-oriented individual with the strong ability to multi-task and perform under pressure and within strict timelines in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable working independently, and able to proactively manage end-to-end processes, follow up on identified issues and work toward resolution.
