Company Overview:

Aseniwuche Winewak Nation of Canada, A Fellowship of Aboriginal People, or AWN, is a provincially incorporated not-for-profit society based in Grande Cache, Alberta. AWN members share a unique history and ancestry as descendants of a diversity of Indigenous groups of Canada including Cree, Iroquois, Sekani, Dene-saa, Ojibwe, Assiniboine, and Shuswap. Position Overview:

Reporting to the Preventative Social Programs Manager, the FASD Support Worker will possess a wide variety of skills, experience and knowledge including: one to one counselling, small groups, and workshop facilitation, effective client advocacy, working with clients of all ages and backgrounds, extensive knowledge of FASD and other social pathology related to FASD, personal mentoring and goal setting and knowledge of local resources and agencies.

List of Key Responsibilities and General Duties:

● Provide supports for individuals suspected of having FASD and their families/caregivers.

● Provide services and programs to FASD clients.

● Provide diagnostic follow-up support to individuals who have received a diagnosis on the spectrum.

● Establish and maintain relationships with government departments and agencies.

● Provide creative day to day programming for youth and adults affected by FASD such as employment programming.

● Coordinate activities to ensure outreach activities address service needs across the lifespan and are respectful of a wide range of perspectives.

● Develop strong and positive relationships with staff, clients, and community stakeholders.

● Collaborate with community agencies and provide supported referrals, to address such problems as homelessness and addictions faced by individuals affected by FASD.

● Implement best practices into the supports and services provided.

● Develop and deliver staff in-services, one-on-one, and group training sessions.

● Meet monthly with key community stakeholders such as Interagency.

● Maintain an office at the Tawow Center, responsible for administrative duties including but not limited to scheduling, correspondence, filing and answering the phone.

● Work collaboratively with other AWN programs and services to increase access, efficiency, satisfaction, and seamless delivery of programs and services.

● Attend staff meetings.

● Attend annual goal setting meetings and identify priorities.

● Perform assignments as required by the Preventative Social Programs Manager.

● Ensure policies support the confidentiality and privacy of clients, AWN, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders and follow FOIP regulations.

Job Requirements:

● Certificate or Diploma in Human Services preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

● One – two years’ experience working with individuals with FASD.

● Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to facilitate group meetings.

● Ability to deal with the public and colleagues in a positive, courteous, and respectful manner.

● Strong conflict management and stress management skills.

● Utilizes problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

● Knowledge and experience utilizing Microsoft Office and budget maintenance software and social media platforms.

● Basic financial management, budgeting experience, report writing and evaluation,

● Ability to function cooperatively in a team setting.

● Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize multiple tasks.

● Ability to work with minimal supervision.

● Valid Class 5 Drivers License.

● Mandatory Drug and Alcohol testing.

Physical Demands:

The position is primarily sedentary with occasional lifting up to ten pounds.

Environmental Conditions:

The incumbent is located in a busy office environment, will attend meetings in the community and travel outside of the community as required.

Compensation:

Depending on experience and qualifications AWN offers a comprehensive salary and benefits package after successful completion of a 3-month probationary period. This position is for a six-month term with the possibility of extension.

Salary: $24.25-$29.82 per hour
