Job description

Our leading air security client is looking for a Testing Advisor to join their team on a permanent basis. This role will operate on a hybrid model in their Ottawa office.

The Testing Advisor plays a pivotal role in the testing, evaluation, and experimentation of emerging screening technologies, encompassing updates to both hardware and software for existing systems. Serving as the subject matter expert and technical project lead for designated technology platforms, the incumbent fulfills all duties and responsibilities associated with the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and report on test plans and protocols for the assessment of new screening technologies.
  • Contribute to the formulation and support of operational and technical trial plans for emerging screening technologies.
  • Participate in establishing performance and operational standards for screening equipment.
  • Analyze and review the system integration of current and new screening technologies, devising tools for seamless operational integration.
  • Formulate technical and operational requirements for innovative screening technologies.
  • Develop and manage project plans aimed at enhancing new screening technologies.
  • Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including site-acceptance tests (SATs), preventative maintenance (PM), standard operating procedures (SOPs), change requests, and detailed test and trial reports.
  • Design tools for daily testing, performance verification, site acceptance tests, and return-to-service tests.
  • Conduct site acceptance testing and collaborate with the New Technology Deployment group for a smooth project hand-off to airports for mass deployment.
  • Evaluate new screening technologies to ensure compliance with regulated standards and operational performance criteria.
  • Collaborate with regulators, airport authorities, and equipment vendors to facilitate effective communication during trials and meet equipment requirements within budget constraints.
  • Provide recommendations on operational, regulatory, policy, or organization-wide impacts associated with new screening technologies.
  • Coordinate with airports to execute technology trials without disrupting regular operations.
  • Present high-quality test and trial reports and provide recommendations on new screening technology to senior management.
  • Demonstrate new screening technologies at the Test Facility to various stakeholders.
  • Offer technology expertise and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Cultivate robust networks with industry stakeholders to share best practices, research findings, and stay informed about screening technology trends.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Graduated from a recognized college or university with a specialization in engineering, physics, chemistry, information technology, or a related field relevant to the role.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a technical environment with exposure to multiple technologies.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting equipment issues, designing tools, creating test protocols, and evaluating standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing test plans, reports, and providing recommendations.
  • Experience in liaising with diverse stakeholders, including government regulators, airport authorities, and technology vendors, while collaborating in cross-functional teams with varying technical backgrounds.
  • Operational environment experience.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices related to equipment testing, evaluation/validation, computer networks, systems integration, quality assurance, troubleshooting, monitoring, research and analysis, technical reporting, and consultation.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and best practices for analyzing technology performance.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Bilingual in English and French or willingness to learn French.
