Job description

This employment opportunity is restricted to all Nunavut Inuit.

Reporting to the Manager, Program Development and in support of the Parks & Special Places Visitor Services Program, this position will work closely with the Nunavut Joint Planning and Management Committee and Community Joint Planning and Management Committee’s, and in consultation with local Inuit, to develop Inuit tourism strategies and implementation plans for communities affected by Territorial Parks; contribute to partnerships, communications, promotions, and marketing; and coordinate the development and delivery of Inuit Tourism Training programs, promoting understanding of Inuit culture and heritage through the Inuit Tourism strategies and plans.

These responsibilities are delivered in keeping with the Nunavut Agreement/Umbrella Territorial Parks, Inuit Impact Benefit Agreement and in support of the Government of Nunavut policy and direction, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles and the department’s vision and mandate.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through successful completion of a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in a relevant field such as tourism, outdoor recreation, protected area management, travel and ecoadventure or related field with 2 years related work experience.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

In keeping with Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and Article 6.3 of the Umbrella Territorial Parks Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement, special considerations will be given to candidates who is fluent in Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun and has relevant northern experience.
