What you will do:

Reporting to the TPS Team Leader, or the Supervisor of Operations in the Team Leaders absence. The successful candidate will perform duties in accordance with departmental and corporate work plans and priorities, including but not limited to the following:

  • Operating heavy equipment such as plow trucks, graders, backhoes for the proper maintenance of municipal roads and proper disposal of waste (gravel and pavement, concrete, ditches, culverts, bridges, guardrails, guideposts, signs, brushing, and tree cutting).
  • Responsible for winter road maintenance, snow plowing and sanding.
  • Providing safe conditions for the public when on municipal lands by the removal of ice, rubbish, tree limbs or other debris with the appropriate placement of all waste material in designated locations.
  • Responsible for safe construction practices (gravel placement, dust reduction, traffic control) and following direction from the Foreman and Supervisor of Operations when completing road related tasks.
  • Perform or support road patrols to assess road conditions and maintenance needs in accordance with provincial regulations and municipal policy as required.
  • Responding to emergency calls (e.g., storms, accidents) to restore roads to pre-emergency conditions, subject to availability and in accordance with municipality policy.
  • Report and record asset maintenance needs or repairs to team leader or manager in support of asset management. Assist with the maintenance of asset inventories and databases, as required.
  • Construction and maintenance of Municipal trail networks.
  • Maintaining equipment to ensure it is in good operational condition and safe for use.
  • Communicating with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Completing site logs, as required.
  • Assisting other departments as needed.
  • Availability for weekends and holiday shifts is a requirement.

What the ideal candidate will possess:

  • Completion of OSSD (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and machinery is preferred. Some training will be provided.
  • Valid DZ Driver’s License Required with a clean drivers abstract.
  • Working knowledge of the skilled operation of similar heavy equipment and machinery and ability to make minor adjustments and repairs on equipment used.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement and initiative when dealing with coworkers, supervisors and the public.

What we will require:

  • A Police Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the Municipality
  • Proof of current valid driver’s license and clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Proof of current and valid certificate(s) or educational qualifications, if applicable
  • Three valid references for a background check
