The Portfolio
Reporting to the Transportation Services Supervisor, Transportation Services Student Labourer
supports numerous general labour functions related to the maintenance and construction of roads
systems, storm drainage, and the cemetery within the .
The Candidate
As a candidate for this position, you are currently enrolled in or have recently completed
secondary school. You possess a valid and unrestricted Class “G” or “G2” driver's license and
have some recent related maintenance experience.
Working for the
This is a seasonal position working up to 40 hours per week. The offers
candidates for this position an hourly wage of $20.65 per hour (2024 rate).

Public Works Department

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Roads Operations (95%)

1.1 Supports a variety of tasks and performs functions as assigned by the Supervisor
or his designate, all on accordance with Policies and Procedures in effect.

1.2 The scope of assignments performed is wide ranging and requires considerable
adaptability to differing situations. Typical examples of the types of work performed
include but not limited to the following:

a) Hot and cold asphalt patching of road surfaces;
b) Repair and replacement of signs and guard rails;
c) Tree trimming and brush removal;
d) Weed and grass cutting;
e) Litter pickup and cleaning of catch basin and drainage systems;

1.3 Shall carry out assigned work in the cemetery and acquire general knowledge of
maintenance and burial requirements.

1.4 Assist with traffic control, subject to being certified as a Traffic Control Person.

2. Other (5%)

2.1 Complies with regulations including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and
ensures all other Town policies, procedures and by-laws are adhered to in
conjunction with roads operations.

2.2 Assists Environmental Services Division and other Department works as required.
2.3 Other related duties, as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess the following:
Education
Currently enrolled in or completed a Secondary School Diploma.

License, Registration and Training
Valid and unrestricted Class “G” or “G2” Drivers’ License with a clean driving record.

Experience
Some recent related maintenance related experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Good organizational and time management skills.
Able to work independently and as a team.

Good written and verbal communication skills.
Able to perform manual labour duties for the duration of the shift.
High degree of analytical skills in assessing and determining job and task requirements.
