The Corporation of the City of St. Thomas

Parks, Recreation and Property Management Department
has an opening for the following position:


TURF / HORTICULTURAL WORKER

(Permanent, Full-Time)


POSITION SUMMARY:

This CUPE 35 union position, under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Parks and Forestry or designate is responsible for all turf maintenance activities within the City Parks and Athletic fields. Participates in a variety of activities related to all aspects of turf maintenance of City Parks, Athletic Fields, and related facilities. As required, assists in the environmental control, propagation, care and cultivation of flowers and nursery stock.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Diploma from a recognized horticulture program (2 year program) or equivalent and 2 years’ experience in the field of turf maintenance and/or horticulture. Must have physical capability to carry out duties. Must have a valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Drivers' License and current First-Aid and CPR certifications. Must be capable of performing minor maintenance and repairs to sectional equipment and have proficiency in the use of hand and power tools, operating light and medium trucks, loaders, and tractors and snow ploughing.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Required to work outside and beyond the normal hours of work and participate in the rotational weekend stand-by call period. May be required to work near traffic and in adverse conditions.

Remuneration: $30.72 per hour (2022 rate) working 40 hours per week plus a comprehensive benefits package.
