About the role

We’re looking for a Unit Manager, Specialty Solutions to join our growing team!
What you’ll do here:

  • Mentor underwriters by providing ongoing feedback, coaching, training and recognition
  • Engagement, motivate teams, improve technical knowledge
  • Set priorities to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity to achieve the objectives of the department
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement for efficient workflows
  • Develop, recommend and implement process and technology improvement initiatives
  • Monitor workloads and adjusting workflows when necessary
  • Participate in the planning of the team's growth and profitability objectives with the manager and be accountable to achieving goals
  • Negotiate with agents/brokers on the pricing of accounts
  • Participate in the establishment of premium and loss ratio targets
  • Provide guidance to agents and brokers
  • Evaluate staff performance and prepare formal Performance Reviews
  • Review monthly production and profitability reports, identifies trends and make recommendations to the manager
  • Promote engagement initiatives
  • Assist the manager with special projects, and acts as a backup in their absence
  • Required to work from the office a minimum of three days per week


What you bring to the table:

  • Post secondary education an asset but not required
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of relevant experience
  • Proven track record of mentoring and coaching colleagues
  • Must be able to execute on short timelines and thrive in a fast-paced environment with constant change
  • Strong customer service orientation, analytical abilities and attention to detail
  • Excellent communicator, strategic thinker displaying high emotional intelligence
  • Take initiative, be proactive and demonstrates the leadership success factors
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation considered an asset

Salary of the successful candidate will typically be positioned between the following range, taking into consideration a number of factors including prior experience, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, location and internal equity:

$88,500.00 - $132,700.00
