Description
As part of the Public Works & Utilities Department, the City of Humboldt is currently seeking to fill 1 permanent, full-time Utility Operator. The individual in this role must exhibit good documentation skills and communication skills (written and verbal). Knowledge of water and wastewater systems, as well as repair techniques is considered an asset. The candidate must promote and enforce safe working conditions, participate in safety meetings and be able to identify potential safety hazards. Candidates shall be able to operate the Citys basis equipment and tools, understand mechanical principles, participate in water and sewer excavations, road construction and repair activities, and all other general duties assigned.
Candidates must be able to physically perform assigned duties which may include enclosed/confined spaces, repairing water/sewer main breaks, replacing sewer service laterals, replacing water services, and operating water valves. The person must be able to work within a team, alone, accept direction and remain calm during emergency or stressful situations. The candidate must possess a positive and cooperative attitude.
Qualifications:
-Completion of Grade 12 or G.E.D
-Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's License.
-Saskatchewan Operator Certification: WD-2, WWC-2 experience is preferred
-WHMIS, Ground Disturbance, Traffic Control/Flagging, and Rigging training are assets
-Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
-Satisfactory Driver's Abstract
Compensation:
-This is an in-scope position under CUPE Local 2359. Starting rate of pay ranges from $24.95 to $30.44 per hour (2023 rate) depending on qualifications
-Employees are eligible for the employer matched defined pension plan, annual paid vacation days, and a comprehensive health and wellness plan
-General work hours are Monday Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a 1-hour lunch
-Once all requirements are met, on-call participation is expected with 4-6 weeks on-call per year
