Utility Operator

The Village of New Minas is inviting applications for a permanent, full-time Utility Operator. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of the Village’s water distribution/treatment system and wastewater collection system.

Reporting to the Manager of Municipal Operations, the successful candidate will be selfmotivated and work well within a team environment.

Candidates should have a minimum of grade 12 education (or GED), proficiency using computers, the physical ability and fitness to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks, and a valid class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license.

Candidates will be required to obtain the following Nova Scotia Environment certifications within the specified timeframes of being hired (preference will be given to candidates with existing certifications):

• Water Distribution 1 (18 months)

• Water Distribution 2 (30 months)

• Wastewater Collection 1 (18 months)

The wage as of April 1, 2024 for this position is established at $31.06/hr for Level 1, and $33.20 for Level 2, as per the collective agreement between the Village of New Minas and CUPE Local 2618-04.

Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm (40 hours per week), with additional overtime as duties require and after hours “on-call” coverage on a rotating basis.
