Purpose

Leads and oversee Global Equities Trading, Corporate and Investment Banking Technology globally ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Direct the development, approval and execution of strategic plans, policies and standards surrounding systems development, business analysis, business stakeholders' management, project management, project implementation and production application support for Global Equities Trading, Corporate and Investment Banking Technology.

The incumbent works with the business unit management and forms alliances on projects, operational decisions, financial planning, technology vision, execution strategy and delivery, including vendor management.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer-focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Handles all aspects of Global Equity Trading in Global Capital Markets business portfolio, which includes Front Office, Back Office and Audit review and findings.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the bank's Corporate Banking technology team, support the business line day to day and implement strategic projects.
  • Leads and oversees the department globally; ensuring business and technology strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Delivery and management of highly complex technology programs which consist of multiple IT projects for multiple business partners and stakeholders, across multiple business units. Serve as a sponsor for driving down operational costs using Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Process Automation within the Operations area. Pass solutions developed back to GBME and the wider enterprise.
  • Direct the management of all IT functions which involves planning and scheduling resources, defining business requirements and systems processes, developing business case proposals, securing user and management approval, developing testing, conversion and implementation strategies, budgeting and cost tracking, ensuring solutions implemented meet user requirements and providing on-going user support. The incumbent is also required to directly manage multi-disciplinary, complex, mission critical projects.
  • Oversees business and technology strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Participates in long-range strategy planning and manages policy development to address complex business issues. To achieve this, the incumbent will direct a team of IT professionals (L9 and below) responsible for the design, development, delivery and support of IT business solutions for multiple major functions and business lines.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for managing resources, technology direction, support and operation globally:
  • Vendor management and engagement for key systems in both trading and operations, ensuring synergistic utilization of vendor partnerships while simultaneously containing costs. Holding vendors accountable for quality of deliverables and service provision.
  • Effectively manage and administers units by preparing project budgets, project plans, status reports and reliably managing the personnel function. This includes recruiting and maintaining qualified staff, keeping turnover low and ensuring staff maintain up to date knowledge on technological trends, business practices and the Division's business and technology strategies.
  • Communicates and incorporates the relevant risk appetite statement and risk appetite measures, in alignment with the Bank's risk culture, into activities that embed prudent risk taking into day-to-day management, planning and decision-making. Implements controls and processes to effectively identify, report and monitor risk. Ensures timely action is taken to effectively manage and mitigate risks, including prompt escalation of breaches of management limits or risk appetite measures as per established processes.
  • Creates a responsive, outcome-oriented environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Accountable for proactively managing and providing oversight to Cyber and IT risks in accordance with the Technology Policies, including Cyber and IT Risk Policy, Cyber Security and Information Security Policy, Availability and Resiliency Policy (e.g., identification, assessment, and responses of IT risks).
  • Proactively engages with Cyber and IT Risk Management functions to implement and apply enterprise Cyber and IT Risk management processes, methodologies, and proactively reduces risk and stay below appetite for establishes Cyber and IT Risk thresholds.
  • Accountable for communicating key areas of risk to the businesses supported and actioning their resulting decisions.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Over 100+ applications supported globally 24 hours/day, 6 days/week
  • The incumbent is responsible for all development projects within the department and manages multiple small and large projects concurrently.
  • The incumbent must ensure high availability, integrity and reliability of programs and processes developed where the consequence of error could expose the Bank to a significant loss or undue risk.
  • The incumbent is expected to identify strategies and objectives, and act to implement them on his/her own initiative.
  • The incumbent is guided by Bank policy and receives broad direction from the Senior Vice President and is expected to support the division in identifying strategic priorities and opportunities.
  • The incumbent is expected to function independently to ensure that the department's objectives are met.
  • The incumbent must have at least 7-10 years of IT and business/industry work experience.
  • The incumbent must have systems knowledge and experience (existing systems and new technologies).
  • Business knowledge and experience (understanding of vision, financial objectives/how business functions and core processes interact/the strategic importance of projects, how they relate to Scotiabank's goals, how projects interact/impact of change and/or delays in projects).
  • Process knowledge and experience in scheduling, resource allocation, risk management and systems design.
  • Critical thinking, continuous improvement and transformation in leading the group delivering high performance while aligning to group and Bank's strategic direction.
  • Experience in the project management of highly complex technology projects.
  • Experience in vendor management, including contract negotiations and managing outsourcers.
  • Experience in managing offshore resources.
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and techniques for managing the activities related to planning, managing and implementing software projects and programs.
  • The incumbent will have a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, OR equivalent work experience.
