Job description

As one of Canada's foremost mental health and academic health sciences centres, The Royal  is dedicated to serving people with mental health and substance use issues through excellence in clinical care, advocacy and research. 

As a dynamic leader in the space, The Royal includes the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, Brockville Mental Health Centre, the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research, and the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health.  Driven by purpose and dedication of our brilliant teams, The Royal is looking for a Vice-President (VP) of People and Culture to propel is forward in meeting our potential as an employer of choice. 

Reporting to the CEO, the VP of People and Culture will be a thought leader who directs all aspects of The Royal's People initiatives and aligns staff and physician engagement with overall strategy of the organization.  Working in partnership with Senior Leadership, you will support us in revitalizing our culture, and helping our People find a place of deep meaning and connection at work.  You will provide expert advice on leading change, creating psychological safety, promoting career development and succession planning.

As the VP of People and Culture, you will lead and oversee Human Resource operations, health human resource planning, talent acquisition and management, HRIS, compensation and benefits.  You will also lead and further develop The Royal’s Equity, Diversity, Accessibility and Inclusion program.  You will also have significant labour relations expertise in order to provide leadership in our multi-union environment.  You will support the academic mission of The Royal, including providing strategic advice to promote recruitment of trainees, students and staff and optimal integration of research and clinical education across multiple programs and sites. 

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or a related field. CHRE designation 10-15 years of progressive HR experience, ideally with experience at the executive level Experience in health care and unionized environments, and knowledge of relevant legislation Proven ability to lead and develop others in order to achieve excellence Experience leading and supporting Equity, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives Experience in an academic setting is an asset, as is proficiency in French.
