Duties

As a member of the visitor Experience team, your passion for tourism, nature and customer service will contribute to the development and delivery of engaging memorable high quality Parks Canada experiences. You will plan and oversee all campground activities, including reservations, check-ins, facilities cleaning, retail sales and group events. You will supervise a team of up to 5 staff, include hiring, scheduling, training, directing day to day operations and performance review. You will lead a team, encouraging a sense of purpose and common direction.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Working within Point Pelee National Park specifically at Camp Henry (oTENTiks), a site designed for both public and group use, with 24 sites for overnight accommodations, a camp store, comfort stations and a community dining hall facility.

Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB) (English / French)

Education :
An acceptable and relevant combination of education, training, experience or traditional knowledge relevant to the position OR graduation from post-secondary studies.

Experience :

  • Experience in providing input for the planning, implementation or delivery of Visitor Services
  • Experience in assessing the effectiveness of services provided and recommending improvements
  • Experience in supervising staff, volunteers and/or students
  • Experience in working with stakeholders and partners (i.e. committees, cooperating associations, teachers, school board, communities and Indigenous groups)

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of customer service best practices and anticipated needs and how to evaluate services.
  • Knowledge of human resources management processes and general administrative procedures.

Asset Experience:

  • Experience in collecting, controlling and handling cash
  • Experience in procurement of goods and services
  • Experience in delivery of Visitor Services in a campground/overnight accommodation
  • Experience communicating with the public in both official languages

The position requires the incumbent to:

  • Be exposed to variable weather conditions when moving between facilities and working outdoors
  • Be exposed to stress when responding to fluctuating, unpredictable visitor demands and requirements
  • Supervise staff directly
  • Work shift work, and/or evenings and/or weekends and/or statutory holidays and/or provincial/territorial holidays

Conditions of employment

  • Reliability Status security clearance
  • Required to wear Parks Canada Agency uniform and personal protective equipment/clothing as needed;
  • Possession of a valid G driver’s license

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Salary: $74,023.00-$79,759.00 per year
