Position Title: Vocational Counsellor

Position Type: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week, Flexible Schedule needed, Some evening and weekend work may be required

Wage: Salaried Position $26.00-$30.00 per hour

Full Dental and Medical Benefits

2 Weeks Vacation, 5 paid sick days

Start Date: March 1st, 2024

Posting Summary:

Vocational Counsellors primarily focus on assisting clients with moving from work and career related goal setting to goal achievement. At Pivot Point, L.I.F.E. Skills Vocational Counsellor focuses on Learning, Inclusion, Friendship and Employment. This role provides support that is client centred, where clients feel heard and seen, and where they are key decision makers in their lives.

Are you looking for a flexible working environment? The Vocational Counsellor will have flexibility in their role to work in both a home office and in community.

Can YOU work under the guidance of a team of Lead Professionals? Our treatment plans include lesson plans provided by our larger clinical teams, usually Behaviour Consultants and Counsellors, but possibly psychiatry, SLP, OT, Dietician, etc.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to engage people with diverse abilities and their support systems.
  • Ability and interest in embracing cultural safety and understanding with respectful engagement.
  • Keen interest in person centred, individualized practice and support.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to increase and decrease supports as needed by each participant (flexible and responsive).
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
  • Ability to work both in person on coaching, observation and feedback, as well as an interest in research design and development.
  • Good motivational skills, with an ability to provide feedback in a kind and supportive manner.
  • Ability to find an individual's natural support network and engage them as needed.
  • Ability to bring participants and their support networks together to reflect on the service and experience of the persons served, and make changes as required.
  • Ability to network and market the program through ongoing community contacts
  • Ability to positively address all concerns and incidents with clients.
  • Create job seeker profiles, resumes and proposals.
  • Complete reports in a timely and professional manner.
  • Locate job openings for people served based on their individual skills and abilities.
  • Connect with potential employers and share the benefits of persons with diverse abilities in their workforce.
  • Develop self-employment strategies if it is the best option.
  • Understand the principles of life coaching, strength building, employment counseling and the philosophy, functions, policies and goals of Pivot Point Family Growth Centre.

Qualifications

  • Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
  • A degree/diploma in a relevant field (e.g., career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, human services, counseling, education, or human resources management) is preferred. A two-year diploma in a relevant field with 2 years experience in the same role will be considered.
  • Knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques.
  • Experience developing and delivering employment and life skills related workshops and one-to-one employment counseling to individuals with multiple barriers to employment
  • Experience working with adults
  • A Certified Career Development Practitioner designation is an asset.
  • Recruiter and/or Job developer experience is an asset.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate is mandatory.
