Job description

Armstrong Milling is seeking a Warehouse Supervisor and Process owner to oversee the warehousing team and provide functional leadership to the business.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Working predominantly at the Armstrong Milling head office in Nelles Corners, Ontario with occasional travel to satellite warehouses or other offsite events. Straight days – Monday to Friday.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Warehouse Supervision & Departmental Leadership:

1. Performance management of one direct report, the Warehouse Team Lead. Track hours of Team Lead for input into Payroll Dayforce system and support the Team Lead in resolving any Payroll related challenges with the broader warehouse team.

2. Provide Coaching and Support to the Warehouse Team Lead in the oversight of day-to-day activities, such as staff shift assignments, optimization of warehouse picking/staging/shipping performance, coverage planning for overtime shifts, performance management of staff and disciplines when needed.

3. Directly manage all aspects of Finished Goods Inventory Control for all of the products stored in Armstrong Milling owned warehouses. Ensure cycle counts are completed at a regular cadence and with the proper rigor. Lead the year end inventory counts.

4. Engage directly with the Warehouse staff to provide leadership support to the Team Lead in the coordination of work, the delegation of tasks, and the resolution of any personnel related challenges.

5. Identify any changes to staffing requirements that are needed to support the Armstrong Business Growth plans. Work collaboratively with HR and Operations leadership to plan for staffing requirements, including the creation of new job descriptions, interviewing candidates, hiring & onboarding new staff.

6. Develop an in-depth understanding of all Warehouse equipment, related systems and Processes, to drive departmental efficiencies, support resolution of chronic issues, and identify opportunities for process improvements.

7. Identify upcoming departmental capacity constraints, and work with production staff or management team to problem solve solutions when needed.

8. Assist in the identification of inventory exceptions and work with Sales, Procurement and Customer Service to resolve, such as distressed or obsolete inventory, excess inventory, residual promotional inventory.

Warehouse Process Owner & Functional Leadership:

1. Provide Process and Strategic Leadership to all things pertaining to the Armstrong Warehousing & Distribution Process at Armstrong Milling, representing the functional interests in the areas of Continuous Improvement, Health and Safety, Quality Management, Finances and Budgeting…etc.

2. Regularly engage with the broader Operations team to provide updates on key initiatives, track, and report KPI results, collaborate on any upcoming challenges and support the overall goal of creating a strong and positive team environment.

3. Work Closely with Customer Service and Logistics to ensure the Outbound Customer picking/shipping requirements are balanced against day-to-day warehouse staffing levels, managing to a defined daily/weekly shipping capacity.

4. Work Closely with Production and Supply Chain to manage the inbound flow of finished goods to the Armstrong Warehouse, managing staffing levels against receiving requirements, and identifying areas of improvement to process.

5. In collaboration with Production and Forecasting leads, engage in the development of finished goods storage strategies by customer or sku in order to support Armstrong’s Goal of maximizing customer satisfaction.

6. Develop an understanding of the department financial success measures and work with leadership to plan budgets or spend requirements that may be needed.

7. Engage in, and lead where appropriate, collaborative work projects that will support changes to the Armstrong Milling warehousing model that will be required to support business growth plans.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

1. Provide coverage support for peer roles in Production and/or Maintenance

2. Take a lead role in understanding the inhouse ERP system Epicor, working towards becoming an internal Super-User and a helping to problem solve systems issues while also training others as needed, particularly as it pertains to warehousing practices and inventory control strategies.

3. Keep up to date on modern technological trends and their potential applications in warehousing at Armstrong Milling by regularly engaging with external functional experts and attending applicable trade shows or conferences.

4. Actively participate in areas of continuous improvement and offer solutions to problems as required.

5. Attend all meetings required to meet the business objectives of the organization.

6. Ensure that all equipment is operating, and any unsafe equipment or conditions are reported to the Workplace Health & Safety Committee or relevant authority

7. Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all matters that are sensitive in nature as they relate to the organization and its business partners

8. Report and unsafe conditions that could interfere with Food Safety

Qualification, Skills and Abilities:

  • Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain and Logistics Management, Warehouse Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 5-7 years of experience
  • Strong understanding of transportation logistics, warehouse management, inventory control, and cost optimization.
  • Sets goals and objectives that align with company strategy for warehouse staff to inspire, motivate and produce results
  • Ensure a smooth flow of goods from the warehouse to the customer.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Proficiency in using warehouse management systems and other relevant software tools. familiarity with Ceridian and Epicor an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Putting safety and well being of each other first
  • Practices positive communication, consistent feedback with respect and professionalism
  • Forklift and Two-Way Radio training is an asset
