Hart House is a centre for experiential education outside the classroom at the University of Toronto. Since it opened in 1919, Hart House functions as a place where students, faculty,staff, alumni and members of the broader community connect with each other and the world. Through an array of co-curricular programming in the arts, dialogue and wellness, Hart House works with local and international partners to foster community and to create innovative learning opportunities for students. Hart House operates from a historic facility on the St. George campus, as well as a 150-acre farm in Caledon, Ontario, offering a wide range of services through a social enterprise model that generates revenue to support its student-focused programming on all three University of Toronto campuses.
About Us – Department
The Marketing and Communications department develops and implements marketing and communication plans, strategies and tactics to support the strategic goals of Hart House. We promote Hart House’s programming and services through Hart House owned and campus run media and channels as well as external media. Our primary areas of focus include supporting Programming, Hart House Fitness Centre, Hart House Hospitality services and Hart House Theatre. In addition, we also provide support to the Warden’s Office, Advancement, Staff Relations, Information HUB, Facilities and other areas of Hart House as needed. We implement a wide range of marketing and communication strategies to build lasting connections with our diverse audience groups including students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, clients, members and the broader community.
Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, Learning and Community, the Website Content Officer will play an essential role in the development and management of Hart House’s website. The incumbent is responsible for building and maintaining the Hart House website, designing templates and web layouts, ensuring brand and accessibility standards are met consistently and verifying that all digital communication collateral adheres to University style guidelines. The role will include creating and editing web pages with interactive media, advising on best practices and strategies for content marketing that support brand communications. The incumbent will make recommendations for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets. Ensure consistency of appearance amongst digital assets. The role will invlove keeping well-informed on current technologies, best practices and industry standards and coordinate website updates and technical issues are resolved. Inaddition, you will advise others on website design and content, ensuring alignment with marketing/communication objectives, testing of the website before launching new additions, resolving minor complaints and requests related to technical errors, and refer larger issues when appropriate. Check that website design and usability practices meet industry standards. Liaising with website users regarding usability feedback. Analyzing digital analytic report data. Recommending the purchase of equipment and supplies. Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Creating and editing web pages with interactive media
-Keeping well-informed on current technologies, best practices and industry standards
-Checking that website design and usability practices meet industry standards
-Analyzing and recommending options for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets
-Ensuring the consistency of appearance amongst digital assets
-Advising others on website design and content
-Testing webpages before launching new additions
-Resolving minor complaints about content and technical errors, referring larger issues when appropriate
-Coordinating website updates and ensuring technical issues are resolved
-Analyzing digital analytic report data
-Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance
 
Essential Qualifications:
-A Bachelor’s degree in related field; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
-Minimum of 4 years’ experience in website design and digital media design. Experience in designing websites; understanding of website usability and user experience principles
-Knowledge and experience applying usability and accessible web design practices
-Knowledge and experience with Web technologies, languages, and tools such as PHP and MySQL, HTML, HTML5, CSS, XML, XSL, Browser DOMs, JavaScript and jQuery
-Knowledge with Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign would be an asset
-Knowledge developing in ExpressionEngine would be an asset
-Demonstrated web design skills, including layout, typography, graphic design principlesand colour theory
-Experience working in compliance with accessibility legislation (AODA/WCAG) would be an asset
-Knowledge of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategies and tactics
-Experience with analytic and advertising platforms (e.g. Google Analytics, AdWords, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Facebook Business Manager, etc.)
-Demonstrable ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment in a busy, deadline oriented workplace
-Proven initiative, creativity and problem solving skills
-Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to multi-task effectively
-Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all work
-Excellent oral and written communication
-Strong interpersonal skills in working with colleagues, students and other partners

Appointment Type: Budget - Continuing 
Schedule: Full-Time. Monday to Friday 8:45am-5pm, occasional overtime on weeknights and weekends.
Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 11 -- $73,748 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $94,310. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
