The Opportunity

We are currently looking for aWind Portfolio Manager to join our Power Production team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Dam Safety & Wind, you will provide expertise and assistance on any matter related to Wind at Nova Scotia Power.

Key elements of this role include:

  • Long range planning and implementation of Wind safety improvements to ensure regulatory compliance and risk management.
  • Perform field investigations to resolve safety, operational and technical problems.
  • Analyze turbine performance through data collection and observations and proactively address maintenance needs.
  • Review production information, maintenance records, and capital improvements of the wind turbines.
  • Maintain the remaining balance of plant assets (roads, wires, poles, substations, transformers) as well as managing maintenance, warranty, and lease agreements.
  • Coordinate with Fuels and the Energy Control Center to utilize the energy from the wind turbines in the most efficient manner.
  • Manage many stakeholder relationships throughout the province of Nova Scotia.
  • Visit the wind farm sites and represent Nova Scotia Power on future investment in Wind Energy.
  • Review root cause analysis (RCA) investigations performed by OEMs or others to assess RCA’s completeness and provide evaluation of associated risks.
  • Provide support during storms and equipment failures to address outages on the wind farms. Work closely with The Energy Delivery Team during storms to respond to outages to minimize fuel costs and meet renewable targets.
  • Lead and collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Remain current on new wind turbine technology; engage with OEMs to understand latest technical details about new products and updates or revisions to existing products.
  • Ability to travel to Nova Scotia Power Wind sites throughout the province and have a valid driver’s license.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably electrical or mechanical) and be a full member (or eligible for membership) in Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • You will have 7-10 years’ experience with wind farm operations, construction, and contact administration. You will have knowledge of wind turbine components and operations (hardware, software, power controls, and generators), high voltage electrical, including substation and switching and have familiarity with work processes involving inventory management.
  • You will have strong collaborative skills working with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve the best results and deliver the most value.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills in English, with demonstrated competent report writing skills.
  • The successful candidate must be flexible in adapting to changing priorities as they arise. The ability to work well in both a team atmosphere and independently is a major asset.
  • Management experience is preferred, specifically in the operations and maintenance area of renewable energy.
