Job Summary
What is the opportunity?
RBC's Corporate Treasury is responsible for managing the capital and liquidity position of the bank through a variety of risk measures, funding actions, liquid asset buffers, and other strategic initiatives. The Balance Sheet Management team in Treasury leads behavioral research work on the extensive array of retail and wholesale products the bank sells to clients with the goal of understanding how to cost effectively fund these products in a way that is robust to a wide variety of risks and stress scenarios.
The research and transfer pricing team within BSM is seeking to fill a 4 month internship for the summer period from May 6th through August 16th, and would like to find an individual interested in expanding their knowledge of treasury and liquidity risk management.
Job Description
What will you do?
  • Aid in the development of user-friendly tools that allow stakeholders to quickly access information on current liquidity parameters across internal and regulatory metrics across the same product type.
  • Help develop infrastructure for liquidity scorecards which will accelerate the time to arrive at a liquidity parameterization conclusion and ensure a consistent treatment across like risks.
  • Enhance the current approach to documentation and project tracking so that liquidity management teams can quickly identify priority items.
  • Other bespoke requests as needed.

What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • MBA or Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas and ability to manipulate large data sets.
  • Comfortable with matrix based calculation approaches.
  • Working knowledge of banking products such as deposits, securities finance, and loans.
  • Good business acumen, ability to anticipate potential needs when working through projects without prompting, and comfortability making recommendations and proposing solutions.

Nice-to-have
  • Coding experience in VBA, Python, and/or MATLAB
  • Experience with Tableau and data visualization
  • Ability to understand and construct basic to intermediate SQL queries
  • Research and writing experience
  • Ability to draft technical documentation to support IT development as required
