Recreation Leader 2 (Children's Area)

POSITION OVERVIEW
Do you want to work with children in a fun, safe, active and inclusive environment and if you are interested in building your skills, and developing as a leader, this is the position is for you! This hands-on recreation position involves working with a team leading children ages 0-12 years in programming indoor and outdoor environments. You will be responsible for encouraging participation, leading by example through active play and group guidance of the children in your care.
The work is performed under leadership of senior leaders and/or supervision of a supervisor with specific instructions. The ideal candidate will have experience leading groups of children in activities such as: out trips, registered recreation programs and sports programs. They must work well within a team and communicate well with others to ensure policies and procedures are maintained at all times.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 10 supplemented by courses related to the work, plus some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Some knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction of recreation programs
- Some knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work.
- Some knowledge of organizing and planning for program delivery.
- Ability to provide leadership and instruction for special events, programs, camps and outdoor activities.
- Ability to deal and communicate effectively with program participants.
- Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C.
HOURS OF WORK
The working hours for this position adhere to Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement, as well as the guidelines outlined in the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access. It's important to note that this is an Auxiliary position, and as such, it does not have a predefined, ongoing schedule of hours.
