EveryMind Mental Health Services
is currently recruiting for a skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic mental health professional for the position of Access, Intake Specialist to provide a continuum of mental health interventions to children/youth and their families.

EveryMind is an accredited child and youth mental health organization that provides a continuum of high-quality mental health services for children, youth and their families who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing mental health, social, emotional and/or behavioural challenges. The Access and Intake Specialist is the primary level of contact person at the organization and at the system level for clients, community professional referral sources and physicians. The incumbent is responsible for providing information related to services and supports provided by the organization and intake network for child and youth mental health organizations, and for redirecting callers when necessary, to more suitable community resources. All duties and responsibilities are performed in keeping with the organization’s Mission Statement, Philosophy, Values, Policies, Procedures and Accreditation Standards


This is a full-time permanent position.

Hiring Salary Range - $57,768.00 to $67,580.00 over 5 years

Please note that hiring salaries are commensurate with experience and generally start at the beginning of the range

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responds to all individuals who contact WhereToStart.ca by phone,email and web-based inquiries.
  • Ensure appropriate information is provided to a potential client, or community professional.
  • Complete necessary clinical interview with client, determine client’s disposition and complete all necessary documentation to process referral.
  • Utilize a standardized intake assessment tool, InterRAI ChYMH Screener+.
  • Demonstrate a clinical understanding of child and youth mental health concerns and child development.
  • Recommend individualized, clinically oriented mental health services specific to client needs and strengths.
  • Obtain proper releases of information as required.
  • Assess needs and determine eligibility for most suitable services through understanding the service criteria for all programs.
  • Participate in peer consultation and mentoring to debrief about calls and intakes.
  • Develop clinical formulation to assist with the determination of the disposition of client referral.
  • Initiate correspondence and other necessary follow-up procedures.
  • Provide alternative community resource information and linkage assistance as necessary.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other community resources to facilitate access to services.
  • Maintain accurate and current records and reports, correspondence, statistics and data entry requirements through the utilization of the client information system, EMHware.
  • Represent EveryMind and WheretoStart.ca at community planning tables, community events and presentations on services, as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and other community agency personnel.
  • Identify and communicate issues requiring attention and/or consultation and direction for follow-up with manager.
  • Identify and report internal and external gaps in services as evidenced in the collected intake data.
  • Participate and contribute to program development and program evaluation.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings,peer consultations and supervision as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

  • BSW or related Bachelor’s Degree in a Human/Social Services field with a minimum of 2 years clinical experience in a children’s mental health setting, OR College Diploma in Human/Social services with a minimum of 3 years experience.
  • Eligibility for membership in the appropriate professional association such as Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care, College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Proof of knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to children’s mental health.
  • Extensive knowledge of child and family development, mental health issues and community resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills with experience in delivering phone-based services.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and awareness in working with clients of diverse background.
  • Strong knowledge of MS-Office, Client database systems and data entry skills required.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Crisis management experience/training such as ASIST is an asset.
  • Adaptable and flexible in managing ongoing change and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multi-tasks.
  • Proficiency in languages in addition to English is an asset.
  • A Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check and Pre-Employment Medical screening (including TB test, MMR, TD, Polio, Covid-19 vaccination), is required;
