The Opportunity
As an Internal Accountant, you will play a vital role in the financial health of our organization through meticulous financial data administration, payables processing, and month-end processes. This role requires a strong foundation in accounting, familiarity with project accounting, and proficiency in tools such as Sage Intacct, Microsoft Office Suite, Concur, and Harmony by Paymate.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Data Management:
- Import, verify, and maintain accuracy of financial data.
- Utilize automation tools built into systems for process improvements.
- Queue up payables for approval in accordance with company policies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders for timely payment processing.
- Prepare working papers for month-end closing activities.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of financial transactions.
- Review and monitor expense reports before integration into the accounting system.
- Provide reports and analytics on overall expenses.
- Administer and maintain project-related financial data in the accounting system.
- Use the accounting system to ensure inclusion of supporting documents.
- Facilitate access for internal reference, CRA, auditors, and external accountants.
- Perform data entry for each pay period using a cloud-based payroll system.
- Collaborate with project managers for accurate financial reporting at the project level.
- Work closely with project managers to develop project budgets.
- Provide insights and analysis on budget variances.
- Support CFO with updating the budget based on year-to-date financial results.
- Support people leaders with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data to drive informed decision-making.
- Assist in managing non-accounting staff profiles in the accounting system.
- Work with Accounting Manager, CFO, and Managing Partner to ensure appropriate access and information for staff.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Manager to review and ensure accuracy in payroll entries.
Experience
This position requires the following skills, experiences, and abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Pursuing or holding a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) is considered an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, supporting and assisting colleagues as needed.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges in a dynamic work environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct and confidentiality in handling financial information.
