Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership – 10% of time

  • Provide coaching and guidance to the accounting functions: payroll, collections, accounts payable and receivables.
  • Liaise with Unit, business managers and Senior Leadership team.
  • Provides technical accounting and payroll support to whomever and as needed.
  • The ability to work with a plan that is supported plan with facts and data.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of financial policies, internal controls and procedures and ensuring that they are in accordance with GAAP.

Financial Management – 80% of time

  • Assist with the preparation and co-ordination of the monthly financial statements, summaries, account reconciliations and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports.
  • Accounting, Benefits for management, accounting field, Payroll, Billing and collections
  • Prepares monthly journal entries.
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliation reports for all affiliated companies.
  • Preparation and submission of HST remittances and HST reconciliations.
  • Prepares and makes daily bank deposits.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping and reconciliation of the petty cash.
  • Responsible for the timely completion and distribution of the monthly billing.
  • Plays a key role in the collection of accounts receivable.
  • Provides current expertise on payroll legislation and provides guidance on the payroll process. Keeps up to date with legislative changes.
  • Manages all payroll remittances and deductions including medical and pension contributions.
  • Prepares all payroll reporting, including T2200’s, T2210’s, T4’s, T4A’s, T5’s etc.
  • Provides feedback and recommendations on financial reporting systems and accounting procedures and policies. Works towards continuous improvement.
  • Acts as liaison as required with external stakeholders such as accountants, bank representatives, government agencies, suppliers, and clients.
  • Data Analytics, People analytics – Dashboards, Report generation, Power BI
  • Assemble and verify documents and information in support of the preparation of the regular monthly and annual reporting requirements and other reports as required.
  • Provide ongoing job costing analysis and reporting for operations.
  • Works on special projects and assists the controller as needed.

Employee training and motivation – 5% of time

  • Coach and train employees on the various FundyPros standards in relation to the finance department.
  • Answer employee questions and resolve workplace issues

Other – 5% of time

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Oversees the database management of the accounting system and the file management of documents.

Education and Expertise Required:

The Supervisor, Accounting position requires that the incumbent have a thorough knowledge of business management and have an excellent knowledge of the accounting field. The incumbent:

  • Must have a post-secondary degree in Commerce or Business Administration; or a two-year accounting diploma and at least five (5) years related experience and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Accounting experience in the construction considered an asset
  • Competence in the use of word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Excellent competence in the use of the Internet for information research, E-mail, and IT systems generally

Decision-making

The Supervisor, Accounting works with pre-determined policies and program guidelines that support his or her decision-making. The Supervisor, Accounting makes decision and prepares financial reports based on recognized accounting principles and practices.

Safety Requirement

The Supervisor, Accounting sometimes works with the clients and/or contractors on their project sites at which time he/she is required to follow safe work practices such as wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment required at these locations and following safety regulations.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The Supervisor, Accounting’s work is normally completed within the office environment.

The Supervisor, Accounting is accountable to the Comptroller. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that employees are provided with clear direction and communications, effective supervision and motivation, and training to effective.
