Duties

Duties of Administrative Assistant support services within the Riding Mountain Field Unit includes:
  • Preparing correspondence and managing generic email accounts;
  • Providing information and procedural advice to clients;
  • Maintaining information systems and other records, such as archiving files and logging electronic files, systems might include SAP, JIRA, Confluence, Peoplesoft, Reservations systems, Trail Information Management systems, Point of Sale systems and Maximo;
  • Providing financial support services, including tracking expenditures, providing information on variances/commitments, processing accounts payable and receivable transactions, verifying financial coding, procurement services, and input financial data;
  • Coordinating travel, meeting and conference arrangements;
  • Composing, preparing, editing and/or formatting documentation such as correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, spreadsheets, presentations, manuals, charts, tables, invoices, tenders, and contracts.

Work environment

Riding Mountain National Park is located in Treaty 2 Territory, the Anishinabe homelands, where we work with the Coalition of First Nations with interests in Riding Mountain National Park to foster positive and collaborative relationships. Riding Mountain National Park is located approximately 3.5 hours north west of Winnipeg. Protecting 3,000 square kilometers of wilderness.
Approximately 350,000 people visit Riding Mountain National Park each year. Our dynamic and diverse staff protect and present the park. We provide visitors with quality and memorable experiences during each season of the year.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff two indeterminate (permanent) full-time position on-location in Riding Mountain National Park in the Finance and Administration department, and the Visitor Experience department.
This process may also be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels, linguistic requirements, or work locations.

EDUCATION:
  • A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in a field relevant to the position being staffed.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience providing administrative support services such as: maintaining records and filing systems, data entry, recording meeting minutes, and arranging travel and meetings;
  • Experience providing customer services to internal and external clients by telephone, in person and in writing;
  • Experience in a high paced work environment with multiple project and operational priorities;
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
ABILITY:
  • Ability to plan and organize own work and set priorities in order to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to collect, analyze, verify, and summarize information;
  • Ability to use computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in a Government of Canada role as an Administrative Assistant and/or in a Finance role;
  • Recent* experience in a wide variety of computer applications and systems such as but not limited to SAP, Maximo, JIRA, Confluence, Peoplesoft, Reservations systems, Trail Information Management systems, Point of Sale systems, and/or a variety of inventory systems;
  • Experience working in finance/administration (accounts payable, accounts receivables, purchasing and information management).

  • “Recent” means that functions were accomplished within the last five years.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 driver’s license;
  • Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform on occasion, if required;
  • Willingness to work overtime on occasion, possibly on short notice.

  • Obtain and maintain Reliability Status Security Clearance.
