Job description

Job Summary:

The Adult Education Coordinator (AEC) is responsible for teaching courses to adults in a classroom setting. They also shall develop and implement appropriate classwork, activities, and assessments for an adult class. The AEC will evaluate and monitor student performance and assist students in identifying and pursuing personal goals.

The AEC is also responsible for a multi-level class of adult learners. The position is responsible for instructing a cohort of adult learners in language arts, mathematics and other courses that focus on improving basic skills and/or preparing students for a Mature Student Diploma or regular high school diploma.

Qualifications:

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education is required. Experience teaching adult or high school students is preferred. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must possess excellent organizational planning and human relations skills. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with adult learners, school administration and partnering agencies.

Must possess knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment appropriate for instructing adult learners in obtaining a Mature Student Program Diploma. Must demonstrate a commitment and ability to work with First Nations and be able to work in a stand-alone classroom.

Must have the ability to manage and maintain a professional classroom providing instruction to adult participants whose basic skills are near or below the twelfth-grade level. Possess working skills in the use of technology to deliver Distance Education instruction, communicate via email, Teams and Zoom and teach basic computer skills to adult learners. Strong math or language arts background preferred.

Essential Functions:

The AEC is expected to be able to teach a wide range of subjects, including literacy, high school equivalency preparation (Mature Student Program or other exams), workforce development, and vocational skills.

As well the AEC shall:

· provide guidance on career pathways, help adult learners set educational goals, and offer support services to address specific learning needs.

· Responsible for teaching courses using instructional methods geared toward the adult learner in a classroom setting.

· Develop lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of multi-skill level students.

· Develop classroom instruction materials, handouts, PowerPoint materials and other resources relevant to classroom instruction.

· Implement a variety of instructional delivery methods, including group or individualized instruction, as well as computer programs that help students make learning gains.

· Administer student assessments to gauge student literacy skills and progress.

· Complete and maintain appropriate student attendance and assessment records and ensure timely submission of data and reports to the program manager or school principal.

· Maintain good communication and working relationships with appropriate staff, appropriate agencies, and related staff.

· Maintain good communications and work effectively with all other education and supporting program departments on matters concerning the program.

· Adhere to procedures and policies for the smooth day-to-day operation of the program.

· Participate in teacher meetings and professional development activities as required.

· Demonstrate an ability to work independently

· Have strong communication skills

· Work cooperatively with others

· Maintain energy and enthusiasm and also build a positive learning environment.

Non-Essential Functions:

· Participates in staff meetings.

· Participates in professional development as appropriate to the position.

· Actively participates in planning to ensure participants’ needs are being effectively addressed.

Knowledge/Skills Experience:

· Experience working with adults or high school-level learners

· To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Excel spreadsheet software, Word processing software, PowerPoint, Teams and Zoom.

Compensation:

Dependent on years of teaching experience and professional qualifications. In addition to a competitive salary, the successful candidate will be eligible for group insurance and pension benefits after a three-month probationary period.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited University in Canada;

· Proven experience in Adult Education or High School Teacher: 4+ years (Preferred)

· Eligible to live and work in Canada;

· Valid Manitoba teaching certificate;

· Class 5 Drivers Licence

· Current Criminal Record Check / Child Abuse Registry Check
